For a limited season only – Darren Maule will be at Mardi Gras, Carnival City, Johannesburg with his multi-media show, SERIOUSLY FUNNY from Friday 25 October until 29 November 2013. For the past nineteen years, Darren’s versatility as a mime, trained theatrical actor and stand-up comedian has made him a name which, somewhere along the line, we remember. He was “that” guy on Survivor SA Santa Carolina or perhaps you remember his great repartee with co-host Pabi Moloi on PlayTV, his sharp cutting wit on “Out the Box” and “Last Say on Sunday” or maybe you remember Darren as the dark horse/comic relief in the multi-award winning “Hard Copy” TV drama series. However you remember him, SERIOUSLY FUNNY combines Darren’s skills as a comedian, actor and physical performer to tell the story – as only Darren can – of all his ups and downs, highs and lows, for better or for worse and to show that there is always, always space for comedy in life. Darren uses his story-telling ability to demonstrate how absolutely anything can be funny. For the first time he will tell of his sometimes sordid, certainly colourful and definitely not boring life. He takes you through the burgeoning days of comedy when stand-up comics really were the rock stars of the entertainment industry and when nobody behaved more like a rock star than Darren Maule! He survived his lifestyle of sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll and has emerged stronger, better and funnier and he just keeps achieving. Darren relocated to Durban two years ago and has continued growing as a performer and can now boast an even larger following… as a breakfast radio show host. To this day people stop Darren and ask if he is the guy from “White Wedding”. Quite an accolade really seeing as he only had 2 minutes of screen time. He also had a cameo appearance in “District 9” which nobody will remember – his scene was cut! It is brave. It is funny. It is his story told for the first time by him. Starting as a DJ with a new line-up in April 2008, Warras continued to grow ever since. As a reputable DJ and host of Live AMP, this young go-getter is poised to take on the industry. Solomzi Phenduka, also known as Sol Phenduka is a man of many talents, but the one that has grabbed the South African crowds is his music. Sol Phenduka has been making music for close to a decade. Even without anysingles released, the popular YFM breakfast radio jock has created a buzz – getting people talking and dancing to his music. His brand of house music is a verysoulful African sound with influences of Afrobeat and Nujazz. With house music being a very popular genre in South Africa, Sol has always strived to set himself apart and take the road less travelled when approaching his music. Thea Lazarusman is a young poet from Johannesburg, spending years performing in some of the city’s supreme poetry events and venues. He then decided to chase his love for electronic dance music. His 2009 release with Diynamic mainstay Martin Stimming turned out to be a very prosperous debut. The track ‘Funk With Me’ was followed by ‘Change’, and since then Thea Lazarusman has not looked back. He tries to bring a level of seclusion and warmth, offering personal and life experiences that everyone can relate to through his music.
