Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple – Meet @JoziStylista

Back since the last time we felt truly inspired, uh that would be a few months ago, we were regularly sharing the Represent love by featuring some of the splendid Tweeple that caught our eye on the web. The concept is simple, we believe in the greatness of everyday South Africans doing beautiful things and inspiring others.  We’re also tired of celebrity culture and just talking about parties. Get with it peeps! Then we got bored and let our updating lapse. Well we’re inspired again and today we introduce you to @JoziStylista – when we met a few months ago she was known as @MsLegend but ch ch ch changes meant she updated her identity. Meet our fabulous  Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple @JoziStylista . To be featured in our feature, make sure to follow Editorista on our tweet channel @sisiwami Name: Zamantungwa Khumalo Bio: Entrepreneur.Womanist.ZaVintage owner.Stylista Extraordinaire. Radio presenter.Coconutist. Controversial.Future literary snob. Debater.Speaker.Lover of red wine Ms Legend I see you have changed your name to JoziStylista, what’s up with that? I started a blog called JoziStylista, I’ve neglected it a tad bit since ZaVintage started…  But it was also because I’m a stylista, literally! You’ve also added ‘Entrepreneur’ to your bio- do tell us! I sell vintage bags and accessories.  The brand’s called ZaVintage…I should be adding clothing and other things late next year… It’s meant to be a vintage lifestyle brand, ranging from clothing, accessories, antique furniture. I update the blog every FashionFriday. There’s also a Facebook Fan Page… And you love red wine – which brands of red wine can you recommend I’m a sucker for cab sav, so I’d say Vergelegen or Thelema. (get this girl a sponsorship!) The ex MsLegend, what are the daily rituals for living a legendary life? Besides being my extraordinary and crazy self-which can become somewhat ‘ritualistic’ at times, I update my journal-turned-scrapbook… In hopes that one day someone will discover it, publish it and maybe even make a movie inspired by the book. It goes without saying that the book will also become a bestseller. Tell us about being a Coconutist I’ve been called a coconut for pretty much all my life. I Grew up in a township, attended a multi-racial school, spoke a lot of English and apparently I twanged. I suppose that’s a recipe for a coconut. I only see it fit to wear that title with pride nowadays. What about a Womanist? I was pro-women before I knew what patriarchy or feminism was. I use to call myself a feminist, but that’s a heavily loaded word and oftentimes evokes too many mixed emotions. I think Womanist says, “I am pro-women” without the image of the women of the 50’s...

TBD: Bringing ‘virtual’ good to real life

Winter is on it’s way in SA and the cold is setting in…brrr. Do your bit this winter to help those in need by supporting the first ever Twitter Blanket Drive this Saturday the 29th of May, an impressive and ambitious effort by some South African tweeters who hope to rally the South African Twitter community to action… Follow Represent.co.za on twitter @sisiwami : Just a short while ago, the idea of rallying the South African Twitter community for a good cause was hatched.  The power of social networking and the strength of the SA Twitter community has flexed its muscles and this idea has grown into a full blown initiative with national interest. The community pushed for a stake in the ground and the date has been set for Saturday, 29 May 2010. This is the 1st national TweetUp in the country, and from 6pm in main cities around the country Tweeters will be out in force, all for a good cause. All events will take place on the same day and time countrywide. Venues have been confirmed in Cape Town (2 venues), Joburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth. Knysna and Plettenberg Bay have also shown keen interest in holding their own event too. We would love to have an event in East London as it is the city with the 3rd highest amount of registered tweeters in SA. There are over 50,000 registered and active Twitter users in South Africa. The event will be considered a success if just 5% of these Tweeters make a contribution at the TweetUp or through alternate channels. Tweeters and non-Tweeters alike are invited to join in this groundbreaking social media experiment by coming along to any of the TweetUps and making a donation. For more information go to www.twitterblanketdrive.co.za or follow Melanie Minnaar on Twitter: @melanieminnaar RSVP’s to any of the national events can be done through this website too. Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple – Meet @mnazania

Cruise from the tropical heat of Durban down round the coast to that breathtaking city we rate for December holidays and retirement (once we’re rolling in $$$’s big pimping it…soon soon!) and you’ll eventually pull into…  Cape Town… Meet Milase Mzamo, our fifth interviewee in the Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple series. Milase finds Cape Town a lonely place and Nando’s current advertising dumb; she believes the boysboys could win the World Cup and that running makes you wrinkle. We agree on three of the above.  Follow Milase on @mnazania and keep up with us on @sisiwami for the next installment… another dude, this time from Jozi, just for a change 😉 Location: Cape Town, south africa Bio: Enlightenment and a higher level of awareness is true wealth. Tell us about the everyday practicalities of true wealth in your life? I believe that increasing our level of awareness between humans/nature/energy/universe reduces our obsession with ourselves and gives us true happiness and thus true wealth can be attained. Racism is a big example. In the bigger scheme of things, we are all so equal. We are equal in all the things that matter, like giving birth and death so why do spend our lives focusing on things that do not matter. When mother nature takes revenge on us, it does not chose white people, coloured or black people. It strikes us all. So why can’t we use all our collective wisdom to preserve our world to teach our children what is right to generate enough positive energy. Sometimes, I can see it happening albeit in small measures. Have you spent 10000 hours on anything? What would you call your expertise? Always have been an aspiring writer. Building up enough hours to write a science fiction novel. I’m fascinated by science fiction because I believe it’s a preamble of things yet to come. If you follow sci-fi movies and track technology developments, you will see how they are related. Why are you Labour for life – do you have a connection to the UK? Met 2 people who influenced my direction in life. During apartheid SA, I worked at the Young Vic theatre in London and I was hosted by a lady who was an author, I told her of my ambition to be published and she advised me to become a journalist, saying, “ That’s the fastest way of seeing your name in print darling” The second one was Neil Kinnock, leader of the Labour party, who was a champion against apartheid SA Besides flying, what other fears do you have? I hate driving and moving things whilst being motionless. Think I...

Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple – Meet @MelanieMinnaar

Je vous présente number 3 in our (newish) series Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple– @MelanieMinnaar . Inspired by tweets in our stream that made us want to know more about the hearts and minds behind the 140 characters… Meet Melanie Minaar, she shares some fabulous insights with us… we most hearted finding out about the local term SABC… South African Born Chinese… I’ll leave the rest for you to discover. Sharpile Melanie!   Don’t forget to follow Editorista on @sisiwami to find out who’s next in the series… It’s another dude… Twitter Bio: Head IMC at Standard Bank, mom to archangels Michael & Gabriel, wife to an IT networking consultant. Part of the Chinese diaspora – rooted in Africa. What is IMC and what is a day in the life of the Head of IMC at Standard Bank? IMC is a marketing management philosophy that advocates integration of business and marketing, as well as of the various marketing disciplines. In my position at Standard Bank it stands for ‘Integrated Marketing Communication’ and my role is to primarily ensure synergy of messaging across traditional and emerging/digital media channels, and secondly to optimise how we implement campaigns across the new media spectrum. Marketing Ops and development of the group wide creative look and feel also fall under my responsibility. A typical day is filled with meetings, meetings, meetings, teleconferences and presentations – all necessary as we operate globally and need to keep use our time effectively to communicate with our non-South African based colleagues and agencies. In between these diary-fillers, there are campaign deadlines to be met – approvals or direction is sought and provided by a network of advertising, online and studio managers. There is always much to learn when you work for a company like Standard Bank – whether it be about growing your marketing skills, financial service industry acumen or general knowledge about the countries which we operate in. I am currently enjoying maternity leave so no deadlines other than the next episode of Girls of the Playboy Mansion to look out for… How would you summarise your nearly 5000 Tweets? A fellow Tweeter asked me if I had OCD after seeing all my Tweets in their timeline! Sadly, that is how I would describe my online and offline habits. Once I find something that I enjoy, I give it my all. Knowledge and information sharing is key to who I am so my Tweets are predominantly about passing on useful information across a broad range of topics and also engaging in conversation whether it be social or on a topic where I can contribute. It’s been a great...

Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple – Meet @matthewncube

Voici numero 2 in our new series Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple – inspired by tweets in our stream that made us want to know more about the hearts and minds behind the 140 characters… Meet Matthew Ncube, known on Twitter as @matthewncube – he’s an Afropolitan spreadsheet geek living it large in London – In’it! ;0  Don’t forget to follow Editorista on @sisiwami to find out who’s next in the series… It’s a lady ! Location: 0.000000,0.000000 Web: http://searchgeek.wordpress.com/ Bio: work in paid search. love pivot tables. game theory & chaos theory enthusiast. afropolitan. mostly from zim. What is a pivot table? – a pivot table makes lots of lots numbers in a spreadsheet easy to understand and can make nice graphs and pictures to draw conclusions Please enlighten us with an example of game theory? -Right. Say boy and girl go on a movie date. Boy wants to see action movie. Girl wants to see chick flick. They both want to spend to spend time together. The strategic bargaining is game theory in practice. Simples. What about chaos theory? – Expect the unexpected. There’s a black swan approaching around the corner. Like the reason the laundry in your washing machine is untangled. Your machine probably uses a nonlinear chaotic system, which means every cycle is random. Got it? (umm… no, still not, but I’ll ask my clever friends to explain 😉 ) What ingredients make up an afroplitan? –  Young, proudly African, internationally mobile, polyglot, making a mark in the world, the coolest damn people on earth Where’s the rest of you from if not Zim? – Well… the rest has been picked up along the way for example my Pan African music sense, my dull British humour, my European dresscode and my brazen American ego Why London and for how long? –  London by coincidence and will be for a very long time (please explain this coincidink further in the comments… pretty please ? ;0 ) So tell us about your night with Mos Def… –  I still think I was dreaming Which ‘thing’ are you going to next week at Koko and why? – Some artist is having a gig there showcasing his new album and a friend got me on the guest list. apparently it’s Usher. not the greatest fan but i’m up for a party. Tell us about ‘Bring me my Bow of burning gold’… – My school’s favourite hymn, don’t ask why as it was an all boys boarding school on the Zim/Bots border – sung it at the end of each term – now symbolises the end of anything significant I do...
