Mark laughs at mid-life crisis

mark-sampson-2008-flier-front-tiny.jpgStand-up comedian Mark Sampson recently turned 40. Come and laugh at his mid-life crisis, happening live onstage at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg this Easter from 12 to 22 March! His brand new show Mark Sampson Feels Funny is a comic exploration of the ups and downs of life, featuring a giant game of Snakes and Ladders and a metre-wide inflatable dice. “This isn’t stand-up as you’ve ever seen it before” says Sampson “It’s more like a scratch-n-sniff interactive pop-up-book for grown-ups!”

Mark Sampson Feels Funny is not just about a middle-aged man with a teenage hair-do playing a kids’ game. It’s a helter-skelter tumble through through the kaleidoscopic twists of Mark’s mind, as he reflects on life, from first love to last rites, dodging sharks and stroking whales along the way. Each show is different, depending on the roll of the dice – and there are fabulous prizes to be won. “But it’s not about winning or losing,” says Sampson, “it’s how you play the game. If you’re into comedy as therapy, this is the show for you!”

Sampson has performed all over the world, from Covent Garden to Singapore, with rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe and Berlin Comedy Festivals among the highlights. His last show, Missing Links, sold out twice in Cape Town, and played to packed houses nationwide for three years from the Grahamstown Festival to Jo’burg, Durban, East London and beyond.
Mark Sampson Feels Funny runs at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg from 12th to 22nd March. Performances take place from Wednesdays to Saturdays at 8:15pm with two performances on Saturday 22nd March at 2:15pm and 8:15pm. The performance on Thursday 13th March is a fundraiser in aid of the Bay Primary School in Fish Hoek and the Masakhane Educare Centre in Masiphumelele. All tickets cost R55 with concessions for Masque members and block bookings of 10 or more people. All bookings are through 021 788 1898.
