This year the show will star multi Grammy nominated Tevin Campbell and a stellar line up of top South African artists including The Black Ties, Jimmy Nevis and Emo Adams. With over five million albums sold worldwide and four Grammy nominations, R& B singer, Tevin Campbell is also a successful actor with numerous film and TV roles to his credit as well as having appeared on stage in Hairspray on Broadway. Tevin’s first solo hit was Round and Round in 1990 and was featured in the movie Graffiti Bridge this was followed by his debut albumT.E.V.I.N. which reached platinum. His second album I’m Ready sold Double Platinum in the USA. He is currently working on a new album. His acting career has seen roles in the film Graffiti Bridge, on TV in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and has played the role of Seaweed both on Broadway and in Australia. Tumi Morake that’s who, known for her comedic acting and now stand-up comedy, Morake, along with three of her comically correct comrades, will take over each Wednesday night’s Carnival Comedy Sessions for the next six weeks. Morake’s comedy has been described as in your face and slightly provocative. But she’s funny, isn’t that the whole point? As one of South Africa’s most respected comedians, Morake, majored in performance and writing, focussing on the comedy. It’s no wonder standing up is no laughing matter for her. Asked what can be expected from her at Carnival Comedy, Morake says “Come and hear first-hand how being 20 kilograms too light to be first lady inspired me to explore other talents!” During each six-week tenure of Carnival City’s Carnival Comedy Sessions resident comedians are given the opportunity to own all aspects of the show from the guests they invite to join them to imaging, design, set and lighting of the show.
