Vanessa is our first Survivor – You go girl!

Exciting, nail-biting, neck on neck, riveting – what more can we say? Big ups to Mnet for a job well done – we can’t wait for the next installment. To Vanessa Marawa, the deep-voiced one, well done babe, it’s a win for women and black women both in SA and the world over – nice one! Jacinda – jammer meisie- jy was baie slim en het goed gespeel maar jy kon meer vriende gemaak het. And as for th…
at make-up – you look much better tanned and fresh.

We’re delighted with the results and are so glad we hung in for the action – Mzi bro, you know we love you – but that was a weird last grasp at straws bru and what we believe sealed your fate. You will surely have a colourful life post this experience and we wish all the contestants the best. Thanks for the entertainment.

What an awesome twist in the penultimate episode of Survivor finally giving the viewers some nail-biting moments – Gareth is out and two of our favourites Vanessa and Mzi are back in… we love it. Come on Representers, place your bets. Who is it going to be? Here’s our bet:
In an ideal world our favourite sexy fisher man would get the bucks:
1. Mzi
2. Jacinda
3. Zayn
4. Vanessa

But we also have a funny feeling there may be a female winner – so we’re also watching Jacinda and Vanessa closely.

So next week is the BIG ONE – we wish all the contestants good luck and we count down the days till SUNDAY when all will be revealed. Two of our biggest supporters L-Boogie and Noxyrsox (Sharpile girls!) give us their take on this weeks episode and for anyone that missed it, see the press release from Mnet below.

L-Boogie
How delicious was the penultimate episode of Survivor? Not only are Mzi and Vanessa back in the game, they are now also calling all the shots at Burba. The show started with Lezel making her way to Dead Man’s Island to join Mzi, Vanessa and BBrigitte. Only they were not in the mood to play best chums with her; and gave her one of the coldest receptions ever given to anyone on a reality show. Yummy. Better still and proving that what goes around comes around; Lezel blew her chances of returning to Burba when she was the first person to fall in a challenger that involved standing narrow poles. Mzi and Vanessa stood the test; and shocked the hell out of Zayn, Gareth and Jacinda when they re-joined them for immunity challenged. The very important immunity challenge consisted of two rounds. First the Survivors, who were tied to a bungee rope, had to run to peg a stake as far as possible into a track. In the second round the contestants who achieved the greatest distances competed against each other by retrieving the stakes. The first round was won by Mzi and Jacinda. The second round by Mzi. Rana knew their game was up and started hustling to stay on the Island. Mzi and Vanessa played the trio against each other and in the end, Gareth was voted out. (About bloody time!!!). Zayn voted for Jacinda, who voted for Gareth, who put Zane on his ballot. Mzi finally got his sweet victory. Now for the final episode of the show this Sunday.

Who will win?

Zayn:
A wolf dressed as a lamb, Zayn would like us to believe that he played the game with honour and integrity. Never mind that he made life psychological hell for former Aguila members in Burba. Mind you, he is allowed to have an alliance; but crying and acting hurt when he voted Mzi out was dodgy. He could have taken a stand against Lezel and Jacinda. He has survived not be winning but by making friends with Rana’s bullies and saved by Gareth’s immunity. He has a 50/50 chance of winning the game if he is in the final two with Jacinda, in which case, former Aguilans might vote for him to spite Jacinda. Then again, Lezel really dislikes this guy so…

Jacinda:
She has been calling the shots from the sidelines. But will Gareth and Lezel forgive her for voting them out of the show? Also, why would any Aguilan want to vote for her when she played a heavy hand in their early departures?

Vanessa:
Initially the game’s wallpaper, V has a chance of winning if she is not in the final two with Mzi. Survivors have to canvass for votes, something V is not good (remember when she won reward and chose to share it with Gareth. Not a word to him about switching alliances, even though she went on and on about it in those individual clips). Still, she has silent determination so who knows?

Mzi:
Good guy all round and deserving of the title of sole Survivor. The only two people who might have beef with Mzi are Sam and Nico. They will not be in the jury; and Rana members have turned on each other so much, I get the feeling they’d rather vote for anyone but their own when it comes to it. Good luck Mzi.

Noxyrsox:
Ha! You got to love it when the underdogs fight back. And boy are Mzi and Vanessa back! Finally, a bit of excitement in the otherwise rather dull Survivor SA, I believe the re-inclusion of outed members is the single saving grace of the show. I don’t think i would have been able to watch another episode knowing that Gareth Tjasink was going to win immunity all the way to the end – resulting in the most boring final ever. It is with great relief that I say, we now have something interesting to watch. When Mark Bayly announced that Gareth was indeed the next to be voted out, Zayn’s confusion on his face said it all – thinking that you know what’s going on is a very bad mistake. The question is, will Mzi and Van take the fiesty Jacinda to the end or the rather lame (but entertaining) Zayn? My suggestion would be to take the latter. Then again, there’s the chance that someone besides Mzi (shock, horror) wins immunity… Let the scrambling begin. Finally.

Doctor Gareth becomes a Survivor casualty

Survivor South Africa’s own Dr McDreamy, Gareth Tjasink, wore the immunity necklace for four weeks in a row, but without this prized possession around his neck his luck ran out in a hurry. Even though he had a strong alliance with Zayn and had formed a pact with Jacinda, Gareth couldn’t survive the show’s penultimate tribal council.

The return of two outcasts from Dead Man’s island as well as the outcome of this week’s immunity challenge spawned new alliances in Burba and sealed Gareth’s fate.

In this week’s action-packed episode the four ousted contestants on Dead Man’s Island – Brigitte, Mzi, Vanessa and Lezel – were given the opportunity to reclaim their lives with an endurance challenge. The last two people standing on narrow poles could go back to Burba, while the others would become Survivor South Africa’s first two jury members.

Lezel, whose arrival at Dead Man’s Island annoyed the former Aguilans, lost her balance first. Then Brigitte slipped and Mzi and Vanessa were back in the main game as members of Burba.

While all this drama was playing out Gareth, Jacinda and Zayn ironically celebrated their positions as Survivor’s final three on their island. No wonder the jaws dropped when host Mark Bayly called Mzi and Vanessa in when the other three were waiting to hear what their immunity challenge would entail.

The very important immunity challenge consisted of two rounds. First the Survivors, who were tied to a bungee rope, had to run to peg a stake as far as possible into a track. In the second round the contestants who achieved the greatest distances competed against each other by retrieving the stakes.

In a tense showdown Mzi grabbed the last stake quicker than Jacinda and won the immunity necklace.

Mzi’s victory disturbed the balance of power in the new Burba. The former Aguilans quickly realised that they needed only one person to swing the vote and started canvassing the people who had voted them off earlier.

At first Mzi and Vanessa convinced Zayn, who indicated that he would never vote against Gareth, to join them in a vote against Jacinda, but then decided that it would be better to get rid of Gareth, whose track record at immunity challenges made him a bigger future threat.

At tribal council Jacinda aligned with the Aguilans and broke a promise to Gareth, with whom she had entered into a deal of mutual support. Gareth kept his promise to Jacinda and voted for Zayn. Zayn stuck to Mzi and Vanessa’s instructions and voted for Jacinda.

In this eventful episode the Survivors also played for the biggest reward to date, a snazzy Hyundai Tucson 4×4. The winner was an ecstatic Zayn, who jumped onto the bonnet and into Mark Bayly’s arms.

Next week the remaining four contestants will take each other on to win the prize money of one million rand. The final, two-hour-long episode of Survivor South Africa: Panama, is screened on Sunday, November 26 at 17:00.
=================================
Well apparently the ratings are down, but we’re still watching! Enjoyed listening to one of our favourites last night , the deep-voiced Vanessa who appears to be the only person who has questioned the ‘overly democratic’ approach of the contestants. She’s so right, they’re not prefects at school discussing who will be on scholar patrol – it’s supposed to be a strategic, every person for themselves cut-throat entertaining game show. WITH A MILLION BUCKS at stake.

Listening to Lezel and Gareth exchange pleasantries, one would be forgiven for thinking oneself to be at the year end board meeting of a major BEE company – with the over-sensitive board members treading lightly all over thin ice. Come on guys, get some life, get a little grit! We place the blame firmly with the initial choice of contestants. Whoever the panel is, you suck, please call us in as advisories next time.

But anyway, we look forward to next Sunday when the four Dead Man’s cast-aways suprise the smug Top 3. Please MNet don’t let Lezel get back in – we couldn’t bare another whiney word from her generous mouth. She is so painful to listen to… chalk on board. Rather let it be MZI and Vanessa – our two faves… Although we’re liking Briggite a bit more since seeing her survive on her own for a bit. We’ll be watching!!!

Burba dump lawyer Lezel
For three weeks in a row, the former members of Rana had an easy ride in Survivor South Africa’s merged tribe, Burba. Going into Burba with a numbers advantage, they voted off the contestants from Aguila one by one. But this week the traumatised tribe finally had to vote against one of their own. They chose to say goodbye to smooth-talking lawyer Lezel Crook.

After orchestrating Mzi’s departure, many people believed that Lezel was in fact running the tribe and that the girls were the power players in Burba. But the relationship dynamics were far more complex than anyone would have guessed.

Last week Jacinda and Gareth made a pact never to write each other’s names down at tribal council. At the same time Gareth said that he couldn’t turn against Zayn, while Jacinda revealed that it would be difficult for her to vote for Lezel. The final rounds would clearly remain a battle of the sexes.

Wearing the immunity necklace at this week’s tribal council was more important than ever before. Not only did it exempt the person from any votes, but it would also determine the balance of power at tribal council.

In this week’s spectacular immunity challenge the contestants had to make fire from a flint, light a torch, run into the sea, burn a rope to get a key from a raft, use the key to unlock a chain on a platform and then get to a cauldron to make another fire and light the winning torch.

In a tight contest, with Jacinda leading most of the way, Gareth took the honours for the fourth week in a row.

Knowing that Gareth and Zayn would vote along the same lines, Lezel put up a fight right until the end, trying to convince them that it would be beneficial for them to have her in Survivor South Africa’s Top 3.

Unfortunately Gareth revealed at the tribal council that he thought Lezel wasn’t playing the game as honourably as she pretended to be doing.

Lezel got three of the four votes and will know secretly go to Dead Man’s Island where she will meet the former members of Aguila, in whose demise she had played a part.

In this eventful episode Gareth also used a panga to kill a pelican on the beach. During a 15 minute live internet chat, this week’s reward with the compliments of Survivor SA’s headline sponsor, I-burst, a guilt-ridden Gareth told his girlfriend how this made him feel like the “devil-man”. Prior to this reward challenge, all the contestants also got short internet messages from their loved ones.

In next week’s show viewers will see hot the four outcasts from Dead Man’s Island are given the opportunity to re-enter the game. But only two of then will go back to Burba. Who will it be? Remember to tune into Survivor South Africa: Panama again next week Sunday at 18:00, in M-Net’s Open Time.

Well we have to admit we are hooked back into Survivor – we lost a bit of interest initially with what appeared to be a bit of a bland bunch of South Africans, save Nico of course who kept the entertainment stakes quite high. These days we’re enjoying every mundane minute of Survivor. We were bitterly disappointed to see Mzi get kicked off this week as he is our favourite contestant – but in the end we suppose it made sense to get rid of such a powerful player… but little do they know that he has been gooi’ed off to Death Island with blondie Brigitte. Ok, Ok, we’ll tell you what we think about each contestant – in order of preference!!!

– MZI – sexy, clever, talented, rooted, has integrity, good soul, deserves to win
– ZAYN – emotional, losing weight, big heart, funny sense of humour, honest and has integrity
– VANESSA – super-clever, gorgeous, has integrity, background person, knows what she wants
– JACINDA – clever girl, good looking, ‘n boer maak ‘n plan, a little too domineering, a little too confident
– GARETH – cut your hair Percy, get some backbone, he’s a real ass-licker and almost too good to be true. Over confident. Mommy’s boy. Needs some dynamism, some angst, some creativity and maybe a personality. Clearly someone who has never suffered in his life.
– BRIGGITE – not the brightest, great body, wishy washy, back stabber, needs a backbone too.
– LEZEL – she has got to go. Whiney, self-righteous, irritating, too thin, the list goes on….

SO!!! Readers – place your bets – who will it be???

Burba ditch their food provider, but Mzi joins Brigitte on Dead Man’s Island…

Survivor South Africa: Panama is turning into a power struggle of note. The majority of Burba members might come from the former Rana Tribe, but they certainly can’t be called tree-huggers any more. This week they fervently disagreed about the next person on their hit list. The guys wanted to get rid of Vanessa; the girls chose Mzi – and got their way.

In the most moving Tribal Council to date, the tears rolled when Burba said goodbye to the Survivor South Africa’s ultimate food provider, Mzi Tyhokolo.

First, an emotional Zayn broke down, explaining to host Mark Bayly that he felt ‘like a Judas’, but that he would stick to previous promises made and thus not ‘vote with his heart.’ Then a teary-eyed Vanessa, in a last resort to save Mzi’s life on the island, asked if she could lay down her torch. Mark Bayly told Vanessa such a move would be followed by another vote and that she would thereby eliminate two members from the game, which casued her to change her mind.

In the final reckoning, Mzi got four ballots against his name, while Lezel received two votes (from Mzi and Vanessa).

Even though Gareth told Mzi that he would note vote for him, and Zayn thought it would be more honourable to keep a stronger player in the game, they were swayed by the possibility of a three-way split, which could lead to the loss of a former Rana member. That would have happened if Mzi and Vanessa voted for Lezel, the guys for Vanessa and the girls for Mzi.

The Tribe are unaware of it, but Mzi will now secretly join Brigitte on Dead Man’s Island and at some stage in the future they will get the opportunity to fight their way back into the game. Mark Bayly revealed this week that two outcasts from Dead Man’s Island will be brought back later to have a final crack at the one million Rand.

This week’s Reward Challenge, a puzzle game, was won by Jacinda, who was allowed to enjoy her reward (a shower, shampoo and massage) with another Tribe member. She chose Lezel and they used the time away from the Tribe to talk strategy.

For the second week in a row, Gareth clinched the Immunity Challenge. The contestants had to use a slingshot to break plates with their names on. In a final showdown between Gareth and Vanessa – who desperately needed Immunity – Gareth cracked the winning plate.

Next week there is turmoil at camp Burba, as the gender fight continues and Vanessa gets fed up with the rest…

Survivor South Africa: Panama is screened in M-Net’s Open Time on Sunday evenings at 18:00. The series repeats on M-Net Series, channel 36 on DStv, on Fridays at 22:00 and Saturdays at 10:00.
