How can I not and I bet you your R20 Gucci shades from Smal street you do too.  I’ve been to China and Nigeria and back to the 1970’s to further 2010 by just taking R6 Zola budd taxi through Jozi.  I came in the city naive and after a couple of back door clothing discount offers and a few card games I haven’t ’til date received any greater wisdom.  Everytime I put my index finger in the air I surrender myself to the great adventure that awaits me intertwined with the culture massive that beholds this story filled city.  Why I love Jozi?  Do you have forever for me, to tell my love for Jozi to you?

I can’t say there is anything physically appealing to me about Joburg, but it’s got a pulse and soul that I just love. It is great to see how different cultures merge into sub cultures in Joburg. In just one day I can cross paths with a real McCoy Rastafarian to a koogirl all togged up in her designer wear to the up and coming business ladies who are hanging out at poetry sessions in Jozi’s Newtown precinct. “Joburgers” give this city a dynamic energy. The fast paced “Joburgers” are constantly on the move, whether they are going to work or the gym, eating out, partying till late, attending shows and the exhibitions and just moving along with the beating rhythm of Joburg. The diverse background of the “Joburgers” gives this vibrant city a culture like no other city.

Jozi, JHB, Joeys, Jo’Burg, Johannesburg, Egoli, The City of Gold. This is why I love Jozi, with its multiplicity of names it also carries a multiplicity of faces. Jozi can be anything you want her to be making it easy for any person to find their niche on her busy streets and bustling sidewalks. It’s the juxtapositions of ‘walkie talkies’ available on the street corner down the road from French eateries. The convenience of ‘African’ style markets sprinkled among some of the best Shopping Malls and Centres, the joy of Live Jazz at Zoo Lake, the excitement of gum boot dancers of Gold Reef, the view of the skyline from Newtown, the Jacaranda’s in Parktown, the artists in Melville, what more could you want? I love Jozi!

From the vertigo staring down the muffled gloom of Ponte’s core to the sumptuous duck and naartjie samoosas enjoyed at Zoo Lake’s iconic Moyo restaurant, Jozi is a city fuelled by fabulousness. Dynamic in appearance and persona, the city pumps out an energy in the CBD that is addictive. Buy a freshly salted mielie on Pritchard Street and pick up fong kong Reeboks for R90. Stroll further along, near the haunting shell of the old Post Office, and get a funky fire-engine red leather jacket, formerly from the shoulders of war-weary Londoners, some say. It’s a breath of fresh air wherever you look – and it keeps me alive.

The most appealing part of the vibrant life here in Jozi simply has to be the fast paced business world. In fact it is out of this world. Where else in SA can you make deals, plan lunches, organize corporate functions and even hostile take-overs on a golf course and all that before 08h00! The multi-cultural business hub of Africa literally calls out your name every morning and we have no recourse, other than to answer with an emphatic “Yes”!

From hazy summer days on Melville’s main street to cold winter nights at The Market Theatre.
There is a buzz about Jozi that is nowhere else.
Only in this place can I listen to the poetry of Toast Coetzer and then
catch a performance of The Lion King.
From the day I arrived in this city, shaking the Cape sand from my feet
I knew there was something special on the go.
Jozi you move me.

I love our city, it’s people and the funny ways in which only us Joziets can entertain ourselves. We’r sitting on a social time bomb – living in one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in Africa – lets put a flame to this cracker !

I love Jozi because it’s a vibrant and cosmopolitan city. I work in the CBD and I often walk around during my lunch break. I have found a number of fun things to do during these walks – a visit to the gallery, browsing funky fashions in the shops, or viewing the upmarket apartments that are springing up around the city. I sometimes take the Metrobus into town. It’s efficient and it also feels quite nice to be driven around in the traffic while I plan my day or simply gaze out the window and watch the hustle and bustle. This weekend, I attended the Inner City Summit, where the next few years’ strategies for the city were discussed. Jozi is exciting because there are so many people from all walks of life pulling together to rejuvenate it. I believe in just a few years, this will be one of the best cities in the world to live, play and work in.
And last but certainly not least, Reuben:

Though perceptually portrayed as a breeding place for all events evil
and utter gormlessness, i`ll always love you Jozi. From the moment i set
foot on your modern routes 9 years ago as an abecedarian country mouse,
i fell madly in love with you like an 8th grader in love with his
mathematics teacher! Jozi My Jozi, from the exquisite night life of
Newtown, the envious high life of Sandton to the fabulous,
mouth-watering restaurants of Melville, my taste buds for homegrown fun
and life`s effervescent rainbow fragrances have been randomly tantalized
by your sweet nectar of being the greatest and fantabulously most
sophisticated yet unusually Afro-centric city on the Continent and of
cause your obelisks of history`s timeless moments always reminding us of
a life to be fully enjoyed in honor of the selfless sacrifices undertook
by our countrymen in pursuit of the paramount stature that you today in
the whole wide world do surely command! Jozi My Jozi – i love you so
much!

COME ON GOOD PEOPLE.  TELL US WHY YOU LOVE JOHANNESBURG or any other place in SA for that matter!
