SUE PAM GRANT moves to CT and DURBAN
Simplicity miss petite size 8mp the Art Exhibition by well known Joburg Playwrite, actress and Director Sue Pam Grant is en route to the sea… Make sure not to miss it! For a review – check out what Noxyrsox had to say:
One gets a warm, blurry feeling looking at the digital photo prints – kind of like the feeling you get watching the clouds shape themselves int…
o dragons whilst you lie by the pool on warm, summer afternoon. They are soft, personal and strikingly beautiful for their simplicity. Grant documents daily domesticity, taking photos of basins, jugs, a single tea towel and also includes shots of her two young children. The enlarged photos are then over-printed with dress-making patterns from the 50’s and create a sub-text and texture that is refreshingly different and intriguing. I immediately thought of the phrase, ‘patterns of life’ and similarly, Grant describes the over-prints as ‘layers’ which one peels away to reveal the meaning and ‘memories’ embedded in an object which create and shape one’s experiences. She goes on to say, ‘I cut, segment and divide a living moment&and then sew the fragments back together to create a new present.’ I respect her boldness and love the honesty of the work. It’s a new form of minimalism and represents, for me, how a single, mundane object, image or gaze of a child creates memory upon memory which we patch together in an attempt to draw meaning from our individual lives. Definitely worth a visit so check it out.
