If you havent seen the craft council initiatives at the Bus Factory in Newtown yet, grab your wallet and get to the new Zasekhaya Market taking place on a monthly basis – there are some gorgeous things for sale – or should we say beautiful things????

UPDATE!!! MARKET ON THIS SATURDAY 27 AUGUST 2005
The Zasekhaya Market gets bigger and better and to celebrate spring the market at the Bus Factory in Newtown will be buzzing on Saturday 27th August. They will be announcing the winner of the Zasekhaya Market logo competition and there will be lots of activity on the day.

Since the Zasekhaya Market started a few months ago it has been growing from strength to strength showing that there is a need for crafters and artists to have an outlet such as Zasekhaya to sell their products. The market has attracted a wide variety of artists and crafters who sell goods from handmade felt animal toys, funky leather bags, paper products, jewellery and visual arts.

Refreshments are available at the coffee shop at the market, there will be boerewors roll, pies and samoosas available for the hungry.

On the 27th there will be a performance by Izintombi zesi manje manje an 8 piece group who play drums, instuments, sing and dance. There will be a jumping castle for the children, a creativity session for creativity session for children between the ages of 6 and 13 will be run from 11.30 until 1pm. Bookings from 10am, cost R15 per child, as there are only 10 to 15 tghis will be on a first come first served basis.

Organisations based at the Bus Factory whose work can be seen include VACA, Imbali, Ikageng, The Artist Proof Studio, The Craft Council of South Africa and The Drum Cafe.

The Zasekhaya Market is open on the 27th August from 10am to 3pm. There is safe parking on the premises at The Bus Factory, 3 President Street Newtown Cultural Precinct.

This Saturday the 30th JULY and every last Saturday of the month thereafter. Go to Newtown and admire the change.

This winter Joburgers have the opportunity to visit a new and exciting craft market in the heart of the cities cultural precinct – Zasekhaya Market will be a monthly event at the Bus Factory in Newtown.

Products that are on sale at the Zasekhaya Market include craft, musical instruments, clothing, toys, hand made paper products , glass works, beads and lots more. The products are organic, handmade, local,funky and beautiful. There are food stalls, live performances and even a jumping castle for the kids. Something new this week is the introduction of works on sale by young emerging visual artists.

Organisations based at the Bus Factory whose work can be seen include VACA, Imbali, The Artist Proof Studio, The Craft Council of South Africa and The Drum Cafe.

Frank Moleleki Ledimo General Manager for the Bus Factory says ” the creation of the Zasekhaya Market is a great opportunity to showcase the works of artists and crafters in Gauteng and is also creating a retail outlet that is not only an exciting place to visit but also an opportunity to see the great talent we have. It makes an ideal family outing”.

The Zasekhaya Market will be a monthly event happening on the last Saturday of every month, it will be open from 10am to 3pm. This week of the children from the Good Shepard Home will be involved in a drumming workshop from 12:30 – 1:30pm.
