Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple – Meet @JoziStylista

jozistylistaBack since the last time we felt truly inspired, uh that would be a few months ago, we were regularly sharing the Represent love by featuring some of the splendid Tweeple that caught our eye on the web. The concept is simple, we believe in the greatness of everyday South Africans doing beautiful things and inspiring others.  We’re also tired of celebrity culture and just talking about parties. Get with it peeps! Then we got bored and let our updating lapse. Well we’re inspired again and today we introduce you to @JoziStylista – when we met a few months ago she was known as @MsLegend but ch ch ch changes meant she updated her identity. Meet our fabulous  Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple @JoziStylista . To be featured in our feature, make sure to follow Editorista on our tweet channel @sisiwami

Name: Zamantungwa Khumalo

Bio: Entrepreneur.Womanist.ZaVintage owner.Stylista Extraordinaire. Radio presenter.Coconutist. Controversial.Future literary snob. Debater.Speaker.Lover of red wine

Ms Legend I see you have changed your name to JoziStylista, what’s up with that? I started a blog called JoziStylista, I’ve neglected it a tad bit since ZaVintage started…  But it was also because I’m a stylista, literally!

You’ve also added ‘Entrepreneur’ to your bio- do tell us! I sell vintage bags and accessories.  The brand’s called ZaVintage…I should be adding clothing and other things late next year… It’s meant to be a vintage lifestyle brand, ranging from clothing, accessories, antique furniture. I update the blog every FashionFriday. There’s also a Facebook Fan Page…shades

And you love red wine – which brands of red wine can you recommend I’m a sucker for cab sav, so I’d say Vergelegen or Thelema. (get this girl a sponsorship!)

The ex MsLegend, what are the daily rituals for living a legendary life? Besides being my extraordinary and crazy self-which can become somewhat ‘ritualistic’ at times, I update my journal-turned-scrapbook… In hopes that one day someone will discover it, publish it and maybe even make a movie inspired by the book. It goes without saying that the book will also become a bestseller.

Tell us about being a Coconutist I’ve been called a coconut for pretty much all my life. I Grew up in a township, attended a multi-racial school, spoke a lot of English and apparently I twanged. I suppose that’s a recipe for a coconut. I only see it fit to wear that title with pride nowadays.

image024What about a Womanist? I was pro-women before I knew what patriarchy or feminism was. I use to call myself a feminist, but that’s a heavily loaded word and oftentimes evokes too many mixed emotions. I think Womanist says, “I am pro-women” without the image of the women of the 50’s who were telling women to burn their bra’s. I love women. I always at awe at what we achieve how we’ve shaped history. I am equally, if not more, critical of things we do and don’t do. How we act and don’t act in the presence of men…

And a Tuesday person? This one came about in the strangest of ways… I’ve been asked about this a million times yet always find it impossible to explain. The best way to find out is to read the book “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom. I heard they made a movie out of the book. Haven’t watched it yet. The book will shed some light into the term “WE ARE TUESDAY PEOPLE”.

Ms Literary snob (future) which 3 books should we all be reading this summer>The quiet silence of dreams by K. Sello Duike. I just recently started reading the book. I’m hooked!  (Ed: RIP Sello – strangely enough I attended a script editing course with him the week he passed on – what a tragedy.) The Book of Not by Tsitsi Dangaremba. It’s a sequel to Nervous Conditions.  Robert Harris’ The Ghost. I literally couldn’t put it down. It is brilliantly written, very compelling and an incredible thriller. It puts some of Sidney Sheldon’s thrillers to shame!

What are your favourite subjects to debate, aggressively? Lately, it’s the effect liberation movements have in the respective countries that they end up rulling. There’s the view that liberation movements/parties can’t effectively govern in a democratic country because of some inherent characteristics that they have. The gender debate is a great one to have socially, from the dating rules, who should pay for it, women giving up their apron for a seat in the boardroom.

What’s wrong with weaves and what’s your alternative? Aaaah, weaves!! Where do I begin?! But since “Some of My Best Friends have a Weave” I’ll go neutral… For now.

Besides marriage, what else do you not believe in. The institution of marriage is just about the only thing I STRONGLY don’t believe in. I can talk for days about this. I’ve yet to here a good argument for marriage…besides maybe legal reasons.

Tell us more about your Mommy and the advantages of living at home Aaah!! Home equals not paying rent. Never having an empty fridge! Not buying groceries (I didn’t realize how expensive Woolworths food REALLY is until I ACTUALLY had to buy it myself. Needless to say, to changed supermarkets!  My mommy!!! Words just don’t do her justice! I don’t know how she keeps up with me. I’m…err… A handful! She once listened to me talking for THREE HOURS straight! She stopped me mid-sentence and said she’s tired of listening to me – I wouldn’t have listened to me for three hours [even though I LOVE the sound of my own voice].

What kind of man does a legend like you hope to find by next winter I might not have to find one… That’s all I’m saying. (Ed: can we get an update please? ;0 )

What other peeps in your world would you consider have Legendary status An incredible young man and good friend of mine Richard Manzini. He’s 20. A student. An entrepreneur and a blogger. He’s on his road to becoming one of the best businessmen this country has ever seen. Remember his name. Another is a good friend of mine Dylan van Vuuren. He’s also an entrepreneur, a student, witty and a force to be reckoned with.

Prague January, Harvard February… why those two and what about March, April and May?What is Model United Nations and what is your role in it? I want to attend the International Youth conference in Prague, that’s the January and there’s a Model United Nations conference in Harvard. As for the other months… I want to get back to radio, we’ll see how that goes.

Model United Nations (better known as MUN) is a style of debating that is designed to be mimick the UN. So you get a topic, for example The Nuclear Crisis, and different delegates are given different countries to represent. You’re expercted to research your country’s stance on the matter, their foreign policy, who their allies are, enemies and all. Debate day comes, you have opening statements, formal caucusan informal caucus… The aim is to draft a resolution, like they do in the UN. There are different types of committees to choose from. I love being in the security council.

As for what my role is it, iback in 2007 I represented South Africa at the United Nations in their headquarters in New York.( I loved every second! From getting lost in upper Manhattan to having Starbucks coffee every morning!).

I adjudicate schools when they have their debates, but loving the podium as much as I do, I’ll be getting back to debating, hence wanting to attend the conference in Harvard.img00010-20100526-2144

And… Cricket I’m a HUGE cricket fan!!! Watch the Proteas all the time! I love it all, from the 5 day test match to an ODI to Pro20! I can’t get enough of it! I even have the historic “438” win DVD of the SA vs Australia! I can’t get over watching it.

Lastly – who wins and why: Jozi v CT v Durban? Durban is out. It’s too humid! I lived in the mother city last year and loved evry second! The beach, long street, mzoli’s, taming the tiger and the funky and artistic obs vibe… But Jozi! Jozi is the New York of Africa (we sadly don’t have the tall buildings). If you can make it in Jozi, you can survive anywhere. CT tends to be too relaxed at times. I quite like the Jozi rush.

So Joburg wins! Like I tend to say, “This is Jozi – Best wake up and smell the gold!” You can’t say that about CT. Wake up and smell what? The fish? The air is cleaner there though.
