For a limited season only – Darren Maule will be at Mardi Gras, Carnival City, Johannesburg with his multi-media show, SERIOUSLY FUNNY from Friday 25 October until 29 November 2013.
For the past nineteen years, Darren’s versatility as a mime, trained theatrical actor and stand-up comedian has made him a name which, somewhere along the line, we remember.
He was “that” guy on Survivor SA Santa Carolina or perhaps you remember his great repartee with co-host Pabi Moloi on PlayTV, his sharp cutting wit on “Out the Box” and “Last Say on Sunday” or maybe you remember Darren as the dark horse/comic relief in the multi-award winning “Hard Copy” TV drama series.
However you remember him, SERIOUSLY FUNNY combines Darren’s skills as a comedian, actor and physical performer to tell the story – as only Darren can – of all his ups and downs, highs and lows, for better or for worse and to show that there is always, always space for comedy in life.
Darren uses his story-telling ability to demonstrate how absolutely anything can be funny. For the first time he will tell of his sometimes sordid, certainly colourful and definitely not boring life. He takes you through the burgeoning days of comedy when stand-up comics really were the rock stars of the entertainment industry and when nobody behaved more like a rock star than Darren Maule! He survived his lifestyle of sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll and has emerged stronger, better and funnier and he just keeps achieving. Darren relocated to Durban two years ago and has continued growing as a performer and can now boast an even larger following… as a breakfast radio show host.
To this day people stop Darren and ask if he is the guy from “White Wedding”. Quite an accolade really seeing as he only had 2 minutes of screen time. He also had a cameo appearance in “District 9” which nobody will remember – his scene was cut!
It is brave. It is funny. It is his story told for the first time by him.
SERIOUSLY FUNNY is Darren Maule’s multi-media comedy show and is an experience for the whole family.
Tickets are R100.00 each and available at the door of Mardi Gras, Carnival City on the night of each performance. Box Office opens at 18h00 before each performance.
