Japan reveals first Robot child – CREEPY
I had to watch the YouTube Child robot “C2” video twice to believe that humans are that close to inventing robotic versions of themselves *shivers* – it’s a must see – but don’t watch it if you’re prone to Chucky nightmares. Creepy indeed. Thanks to Aquoibon for the heads up…watch C2 here below. Freaky. Read all about it at http://www.japanprobe.com/?p=1877: A child-sized android with flexible joints and soft skin developed by the Japan Science and Technology Agency was unveiled Friday at Osaka University, where the agency’s research and development team is based. The 1.3-meter-tall, 33 kilogram humanoid robot has optical, auditory and tactile sensors. Fifty-one actuators inside its body run on compressed air and enable the robot to make complex movements smoothly. About 200 tactile sensors are embedded in the robot’s gray skin, which is made of silicon and other materials. The robot can react to its surroundings by blinking and altering its facial expressions. The robot, which has the physical ability of a 1- or 2-year-old toddler, can turn over and stand up with...

Pretoria…or is it Tshwane Comedy Festival
Winter means Theatre is the new Picnic and discounted block bookings mean you can take the whole gang and your basket. For those looking for entertainment and *hopefully* a good laugh, make sure to book your seat for the upcoming jampacked Pretoria… or is it Tshwane Comedy Festival later this month at the State Theatre. Have a close look at the line up – we’re not taking them seriously as you know comedy requires that we laugh at ourselves – but the different genres are pretty literal – “Hardcore” clearly means leave your Aunty at home (unless she’s dirrrrttty like that), “Black”, we assume means lots of our 11 languages being gooi’ed and “Afrikaans” means just that – Afrikaans only – with “in” jokes. Gotta love this place. So we’d advise you to either practice your fake “i get it” laugh and leg-slapping routine or take a very talented and patient multi-lingual friend with u… hard choice. If you’re multi-lingual the Comedy Festival is your oyster. We’ll hopefully go to loads and let you know who our favourites were! TICKETS! Rock is back and it’s Black!
*To win a pair of tickets for Friday please email the editor with subject BLK JKS, include your name, age and cell number asap!* Well that’s what the Weekly Mail said about the dark and deep rockers BLK JKS – see if it’s true this Friday at the Bohemian in Richmond, near Melville (leave all comfort requirements at home). Last time we saw the dudes in action we were way impressed – I remember thinking “a South African RadioHead” (if that is remotely possible.) We’ve also heard a lot about Desmond and the Tutu’s although the name makes us cringe and certainly a bit skeptical of them. Wonder what uBabe Tutu thinks? We just have too much respect to use his name in vain but maybe we’re being old and boring? Surely there could be better name options – besides the association, it just sounds so corny…and you know Editorista can’t take corn. We’ll have to check them out and let you know but they’re going to have to persuade us. The BLK JKS – Natalia (Cpt) – Desmond & Tutus @ Bohemians – Friday 8th June The winning combination of The BLK JKS with Desmond & the Tutus is rekindled to heat up the winter night on Friday the 8th June at Bohemians, alongside Natalia the special guest folk /pop singer songwriter from Cape Town.
