We’ll try and interview some of the guys for ya, interesting to see blogging and real life merge through sketching! Durbs we expect nothing less than the most progressive of movements from you. DON’T FORGET TO PULL IN FOR OFF THE WALL 2 A visual arts performance exhibition featuring The Sketchbook Project Opening Monday, May 7 at 6:30pm continuing on through Saturday, May 26, 2007 COME AND ENJOY: *exciting new visual art hybrids that combine comix, graph-X, hip hop & blogging.. *a retina-searing onslaught on the neo-bourgeois sensibilities of the postcolonial mainstream… *a melting pot spiced with slam, hip hop and live comix jamming… *paintings & drawings, original comix & prints, artists’ books & micro-zines, original sketchbooks & editioned facsimiles, animated blogs, anti-brand caps & tees, graffiti workshops, comic jams & slam performances. OFF THE WALL 2 features more than 20 artists, both established and up-&-coming, including (at last count): Zapiro, Rico, Themba Siwela, Wesley van Eeden, Jason Bronkhorst, Ewok, Alastair Findlay, Ben Hodson, Tyron Love , N.D.Mazin, Jeff Rankin, Andrew Mogridge, Mogorosi Motshumi, Jeremy Nel, Mike Scott, Wild Beast, Luke Molver, Leonora van Staden, Senyol, Scott Siveright, Ross Turpin, Adelle O’Connell, Thabani Gumede, Andrew Schnetler, Alastair Laird, and Unknown Graf Writers… The show will also include a CHEAP STUFF WALL with works priced to sell at R300 or less. A POP GOES YOUR WALLET CHEAP STUFF AUCTION with a maximum wallet of R300 will also be held on the opening night. SKETCHBOOK VIEWINGS: The artists’ original sketchbooks will be displayed behind glass at the opening event. But for those who wish to browse through these original works of art, the artists will be showing their sketchbooks at the gallery during the day on Monday 7 May, before the exhibition opening. Thereafter, the sketchbooks may be viewed at the gallery on request and under supervision for the duration of the exhibition. RESPONSIBLE GRAFFITI PROJECT: Cape Town street art guru Senyol and Durban graf-X ranter Ewok will be running a “Responsible Grafitti” workshop in the gallery on Sunday, 6 May. The mural art produced on that day will be on exhibition for the duration of the show. While looking for a Friday laugh for you we stumbled across this YouTube clip of David Hasselhoff lying prostrate with what appears to be serious booze-driven munchies. It sounds like his daughter talking to him and asking him to not drink or else he will be fired from his show… It’s not actually funny but rather sad. Kitt would be devastated. We sometimes forget that celebs are not superhumans but instead flawed humans who all have their demons and their weaknesses just like you and I the ordinary people. Makes you think. Doesn’t it. Will continue to look for something Friday funny....
SHESHA! Africa in Motion Call for film Entries
Siyaxolisa guys, in the madness of moving from Windows to open source we lost a whole bunch of mail that got redirected to some funny junky place… anyway we have recovered it and urge all film makers to enter their work into the Edinburgh-based African in Motion Film (AiM) Festival NOW. They are particularly interested in young film-makers living and working in Africa – they’re also looking for short films and doccies this year. You know who you are! You need to get them in by the end of the month so spend that money and send them by fast mail! Here’s the deal but fly here to get it all” (pic of Touki Bouki from AiM website) As an exciting development for AiM 2007 we are opening a call for entries to all African filmmakers to submit short films and documentaries. The deadline for submissions is 31 May 2007. For enquiries about submissions, please contact us at: submissions@africa-in-motion.org.uk Submission Guidelines We accept entries from all filmmakers of African nationality working in Africa or abroad. We are particularly interested in giving exposure to young, emerging African filmmakers living and working in Africa. Films could be fiction, animation, experimental or documentary and shot in any format. Only films directed by filmmakers of African nationality will be accepted. The film can be from any time period and could have been screened at festivals and in cinemas previously. Fiction films should be no longer than 40 minutes and documentaries no longer than 60 minutes. We will only accept films in English or with English subtitles. Participants are responsible for all translation and subtitling, but please get in touch with us if you need advice/support on this. Participants should complete the entry form and post it with a viewing copy of the film to us at: Africa in Motion Film Festival Submissions 37 McDonald Road Edinburgh EH7 4LY UNITED KINGDOM The viewing copy should be on VHS PAL, DVD (any region) or Mini DV PAL.
