We know Cape Townians have a lot of free time … right? So if you’re in Slaapies, make sure to take a stroll to the BLANK art gallery in Buitengracht street, put on your most artistic look, get deep and put some pencil to paper – your scribbles will be exhibited and may even make it into the Blank paper book that the gallery will be compiling post the project… here’s more: The blank paper projects at blank projects blank projects will become an open studio, comprising of a working table, a pile of paper and pencils. Artists are invited to make drawings on the paper provided and to display the results on the walls of the space. At the end of the show, the drawings will be bound into a book, ‘blank paper 2007’. This time last year we did our first ever podcast when we attended the nominee launch for the SAMA’s and recorded a whole bunch of South African artists giving us their take of the nominee list – listen to it here!. It’s as easy as that – ok..ok…we know we need to do more -we intend to!! If you haven’t yet dabbled in podcasting but have lots of interesting things to say, make sure you enter the “Get Podcasting – The Showdown” competition currently running on 5FM. Working in collaboration with 5FM, Coca-Cola, and MINI, Apple IMC is spearheading the first-ever podcasting competition on the continent of Africa. Houses of Memory at Durban Art Gallery
Hey Durbanites – If you were wondering about the unusual wire construction protruding from the old underpass as you drive up toward Tollgate Bridge from the city centre, then head to the Durban Art Gallery on Wednesday the 4th of April 2007 at 6pm to find out more. Houses of Memory opens at the DAG this Wednesday, it’s a collaboration between South African and Swedish artists – it’s a University of Kwazulu/Natal initiative – see the Centre for Creative Arts website here for more info. Featured images are a public installation by Doung Anwar Jahangeer, South African artist and architect who will be exhibiting on the show. Houses of Memory attempts to understand the present and the future, and to connect apparently different countries like South Africa and Sweden, and will be a multimedia exhibition, giving room for a variety of artistic expressions. Memories of Modernity is the title of a broad collaborative project between K3, School of Art and Communication, Malmö University and the Centre for Creative Arts and Centre for Culture and Media Studies of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and supported by the Department of Arts and Culture. The art exhibition, Houses of Memory at the Durban Art Gallery is produced by South African and Swedish artists and forms the backbone of the Memories of Modernity project.
