2 of our FAVE new GOOGLE products

Yes – Stoffel always keeps us up to date with the latest online trends and launches. Google has been on a mission, they look set to take over cyberspace… They have recently launched a whole bunch of spanking hot products and we tell you about two of them: First up the FANTABULOUS GOOGLE SKETCHUP… Basically it’s free … 3D software that you can learn to use and start drawing your dream house, office space etc…. This is really worth playing with. You can then also integrate it into Google Earth!! Here’s their talke: Google SketchUp (free) is an easy-to-learn 3D modeling program whose few simple tools enable you to create 3D models of houses, sheds, decks, home additions, woodworking projects – even space ships. You can add details, textures and glass to your models, design with dimensional accuracy, and place your finished models in Google Earth, share them with others by posting them to the 3D Warehouse, or print hard copies. Google SketchUp (free) is a great way to discover if 3D modeling is right for you. THE SECOND FANTASTIC GOOGLE INVENTION is GOOGLE TRENDS – click here to go there. With Google Trends, you can compare the world’s interest in your favorite topics. Enter up to five topics and see how often they’ve been searched for on Google over time. Google Trends also displays how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories, and which geographic regions have searched for them most often. ****************************************************** Thanks to Stoffel for his usual great story – Click here to go to the Guardian UK site for more info. If you have ever been to the UK – you will know how seriously they take their “chart positions” – their music industry functions like a tight ship, with positions on charts being determined by the ACTUAL number of records being sold as opposed to other dodgy methods that we’re used to…So South African Muso’s – there’s nothing stopping you from cracking the UK charts now… GO FOR IT!: “Gnarls Barkley and the song Crazy made pop music history yesterday as they went to number one based only on the number of people who paid to download it. Technophobes can today find out what all the fuss is about and go into a shop to physically buy the CD single. It went to the top of the charts thanks to a rule change brought in last month which allows download sales to count as long as a pressed CD is released a week later. Gnarls Barkley – a made up name – consists of US hip hop producer Danger Mouse (aka Brian...

TEAM BUYING – a clever concept but would it work here?

Yip, you know that CHINA is the ultimate shopping destination – bargain central and electronics to die for dahl…. But it seems that the Chinese are not happy with just accepting the prices offered to them by store holders… they have come up with a brilliant concept called tuangou which basically means GROUP SHOPPING. What is group shopping? Well it’s exactly that, using th… e collective to buy in bulk from a shop and demanding a discount for that bulk purchase. To explain it in our context… think of it this way… you’ve seen all the complexes springing up in the Fourways area for example… obviously a lot of those complexes will be filled with first-time home buyers and renters who have left a home environment or a digs and need to set up their own house. Now picture this – you need a couch, a washing machine and a fridge. So do another ten people moving into the complex, so you all get together and go shopping as a team.. You walk into Game or Dions or wherever and find the products you all want and are happy to purchase together, so you call the manager of the shop and ask that he gives you all a 20% discount on the starting price of the goods as you are buying in bulk. He of course is not going to say no as your group could represent what he sells in a few days… so he barters and negotiates and wraps up the deal at 15% – you all leave feeling very chuffed with your purchase. He’s happy as he’s made his weeks target in a day. While that example may seem simple, we think that making GROUP SHOPPING happen in South Africa would be a challenge. Our first problem is that we are riddled with ‘big name brand’ stores… the culture of smaller shops is nowhere near that of the East. It is a sad fact. If you want to buy clothes you are usually restricted to your Edgars, Truworths, Foshini, Mr Price et al… the smaller boutiques are usually more pricey or full of junk… On that note we really have to encourage small business to multuply so we can break out of that whole MALL mentality and so we aren’t constantly restricted to a handful of big name shops. Ok there are lots of MALLS in Asia, but they are made up of hundreds of small shops that sell a myriad of products all at affordable prices… because there are so many small shops the selection is so much greater. Malls will be the death of...

A Representer asks for LOVE advice from you

One of our readers has turned to us for help. She is in a dilemma and would like the Represent readers to give her advice on what she should do. If anyone has been in a similar situation or feels that they are qualified to give advice to her… please do so in the comments box. You can send in your problems to editor@represent.co.za for our readers to help you solve them. Jack…y is a 24 year old virgin. She has been seeing a married man 18 years her senior for the last few months. He recently acted in a rather fatherly way to her which has confused her a lot. She tels us the full story: We met in January @ work. We started kissing early in Febuary. He told me that he wanted to kiss me since the first time we met. I didn’t even think of him in that way. He was just a pal, because I had a boyfriend and he is married. So the kissing was not a relationship, because we were both involved. He told me how unhappy he was and that he and his wife are no longer talking to each other. I felt sorry for him at that time. But he helped me to get through a relationship where my boyfriend used to blackmail me emotionally. I am single and he was there for me throughout the ordeal. He would phone to see if I am ok. And sometimes to ask if he can come to my place. At first we just kissed, but after two monts, things got heavy. But we never had sex. I’ve never had sex before and he doesn’t want to pressure me, which I respect and appreciate. But it is just the kiss on the forehead that happened while we were kissing a while back. It made me think about what is really going on here. This is not a relationship right? Because we both said that we can’t have a relationship since that first kiss. I even joked and said that I need a kissing-buddy, nothing more and he said he wanted to be my kissing-buddy. We sms each other and occationally have a conversation on the phone… I don’t know why we ended up together, but we argue all the time about the silliest things and laugh about it afterwards. And that is so funny, becoz he likes to tease me and told me so. This is the first time that I am doing this (being with a married man). I am not proud of myself, but he is a good friend after all....

REVIEW: 4 movies in order of favourites

The beauty about a blogazine is that one can be particularly subjective when giving their opinion … as we so blatantly are at Represent. We tend to be fairly confident in our taste and know what we like and we like to let you know. Editorista saw four movies in the last two weeks while travelling and wanted to share her feelings on them with you…Some of them have been released and …some are still on their way. Here’s a quick review from our first lady….she would love to hear your thoughts! In order of preference: TRANSAMERICA Brilliant. Really well cast and well acted… the storyline is simple but so believable. Gives some interesting insight into the life of a trans-sexual and the ramifications of being related to one. Our favourite character had to be (besides Stanley aka Bree) has to be his/her mother. MUST WATCH THIS!!! GLORY ROAD – Release date – 15 June Powerful but bordering on cheesy. This is one of those movies with a really cliched storyline… It’s about the first black basketball team to win the National College league in 1966. GIrls – FANTASTIC eye-candy all round. A wide selection of men to perve over with some really sexy bodies. As a South African I found the messages in this film to be highly relevant to our society and the early days of reconciliation and understanding in which we find ourselves. I love people that put their foot down and refuse to live and act as society dictates… particularly when it comes to race. Some may argue that yet again the hero is a white guy but I think that this is relevant to the era which the film depicts. This is a real tear-jerker at moments and will definitely make you question your behaviour towards other races – in all directions. I know a few people who could learn some real lessons from this film. Great if you feel like getting deep. Great if you need to review your racism within. MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA Enjoyable I never managed to finish the book and when I watched the film I remembered why… It’s slow-moving and a little caught up in detail. But that said it is a visually beautiful film to watch. Definitely a chicks film. MATCH POINT – Release date 8 June It’s OK. I really enjoy Woody Allen and so hoped for a little more from the film. My problem with the film came mainly from the two lead actors Jonathan Rhys Meyers who plays a very heavy-faced Chris and Emily Mortimer who plays Chloe…. Not great. Felt like a nail...
