STEVE FATAAR FIRST GUEST IN NEW CONCEPT: MUSIC BOX
You’re invited to book your space for the launch of iSupport Music Business – The Music Box . It promises to be an eventful launch featuring a song and a dance. All you have to do is read more after the jump. The team at iSupport Music Business is launching their new concept Music Box on Sunday 30 June 2013 at Afriportico Restaurant, Bat Centre. The entrance fee is R80 and doors open at 2pm. Bookings are recommended on info@isupportdoyou.com or 031 7111 524. Music Box is a monthly event that shows the audience another side of an artist they thought they knew so well. The concept encourages the audience to listen to the stories that the artist has to tell. The artists involved choose to translate the most important sources of inspiration to them. This first edition has an intimate set-up and offers you a peek into the living room of Durban guitarist and musical legend Steve Fataar, where he will tell the story of his live through music. Steve’s interesting and sometimes tumultuous life is like a classic tale of rock n’ roll turmoil, triumph and redemption. As you go on this journey with this fascinating 70-year old musician, Steve will tell you stories from backstage, stories about crazy fans and the brave step he took to leave the music INDUSTRY to actually go play music. During his journey several people he worked with in past and present enter his living room, such as Jerry Kunene, Shomon, Raheem, Dane Fataar and more unexpected surprise guests. Together with his brothers, Ricky and Edries, Steve Fataar helped to make the Flames one of South Africa’s best bands of the 1960s. Formed in 1964, The Flames were “discovered” by Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys while performing in a London club in 1969. One of the first bands signed to the Beach Boys’ label, Brother Records, The Flames recorded their first internationally released album, the following year. The FLAMES whose single “For Your Precious love” was a chart-topper for 13 weeks, Steve has travelled England and America, touring with the Beach Boys. These days he lives and plays in Durban. Crowned a living treasure by the mayor of Durban in September 2000, South African musician and pioneer – Steve Fataar has had the pleasure and success of performing with his family throughout his journey. As part of this new event a You Tube Channel has been initiated under the name MusicBoxDBN on which artists’ anecdotes will be revealed in the weeks before the event. For this first edition of Music Box interviewed Steve Fataar in the living room of his...

3rd time with Vlismas.
When you’re good at what you do there’s no stopping you from being recognised. Here’s John Vlismas proving he has the touch to make you laugh for a 3rd time around. Since we reported on his first appearance, the show has now been extended, find out more as we prepare to hysterically LOL 🙂 details below. THIRD SHOW ADDED DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND Hysteria (of the bad kind), tears (not from laughing) and general disappointment are what John Vlismas would like to avoid should fans of his upcoming John Vlismas Is/In 40 show not be able to secure their tickets. After announcing he would celebrate his 40th birthday (it happens to the best of us) by putting on a one-man comedy show like no other, the public (bless them) have responded so eagerly that both evening shows on Friday 14 and Saturday 15June are close to selling out. With demand high, John Vlismas responded immediately (bless him) by releasing a third show date – Saturday 15 June at 17h00. The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg will receive enthusiastic comedy fans and lovers of a good laugh when the “Short Troublemaker” will tell everyone in attendance what his take is on turning the dreaded age. “I heard that Steve Hofmeyr was planning a show for 17:00 on Saturday, the 15th of June, so I wanted to do some community outreach by offering South Africans, with taste, a place of shelter. Luckily we already had the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg, so we have opened her doors for an extra show out of compassion. Goodness, we don’t want them feeling forced to go to a barnyard and hear a Neil Diamond CD while nibbling on a picnic,” explains John Vlismas. Comedy fans are set for a one-man show with a production element that has never been seen before in South Africa. We’re not going to give away too much (or the punch line), but audiences can expect a multimedia feast, as Vlismas bends the rules and pushes the technical team to new levels of output for “40” – ‘But don’t worry,’ says a mischievous Vlismas, ‘I know my crowd, and I know what they’re coming for – so there will be plenty of exotic language, taboo topics, and awkward pauses. I’ve even developed two new swear words especially for my people.’ If you haven’t bought your tickets for this momentous show, do it now to avoid, well, having to go to a barnyard to hear a Neil Diamond CD while nibbling on a picnic. “40” is scheduled to Premiere at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg 14th &...
JOHN VLISMAS IS/IN 40 – IS THE MADNESS OVER?
While most people would celebrate their 40th birthday with a landmark party, John Vlismas will be doing the two things he loves best – talking dirty, and making people laugh. The short but sharp troublemaker, who describes himself as “the thinking woman’s scumbag” says that “40” will be his most audacious show to date: “I’ve always wondered what it would be like to hit 40 – I must say, I’m almost there, and I’m still chewing my own food, I get wood on demand, I don’t get out of breath when I use stairs, and Steve Hofmeyr still hates me, so the signs are that everything is as it should be…” Having become well-known for his part in staging some of the best comedy productions in South Africa, including the SA Comic’s Choice Awards™ and Mass Hysteria, Vlismas says hewill be working extra hard on the design of this production to make sure that there are plenty of creative surprises for the audience, as well as a whole bunch of new material, including his most outrageous and thought-provoking yet – while he is loathe to divulge too much, he says that there may be nudity, live music and albinos. Rhinos may come in for a lambasting, as will people in wheelchairs, the illiterate, the rich, tourists, rugby fans and people who march. He describes the show as a semi-biographical and gut-wrenchingly funny tour of the rainbow nightmare, where horror and belly laughter are neighbours, where everyone gets it and no one gets out alive. While this may sound shocking and offensive, we have come to learn that Vlismas very seldom opens his big mouth without a great deal of reading and thinking first, and we suspect that this show will be no exception. “40” is scheduled to Premiere at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg 14th & 15th June 2013 Bookings Through Computicket http://alturl.com/8xm9t MEDIA: PRODUCTION John Vlismas Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/therealjohnvlismas John Vlismas Twitter: @fortyshort Suggested Hash tags: #40 & #madnessover?
