Support this youth HIV initiative in Durban
There is so much to be done if we want our country to continue to be a better place for all and as always we encourage everyone to do their bit -no matter how big or small – to make a difference within our communities, particularly those that are fortunate for those that are struggling… Here’s the kind of project that we ask all Durbanites to support – the launch of an HIV/AIds educat… ional theatre piece in Durban – put together by some young people who felt the need to do something NOW. They need all the help and support they can get so go for it Representers! Freedom Extravaganza is an educational theatre group founded in May 2002 by the youth of Newlands to fight and tackle the social issues facing the South Africa youth, especially the increasing rate of young people dying from HIV/AIDS. As the youth, we believe we are the future leaders of this country and therefore can not allow AIDS to take that away from us. It the young people who are mainly the victims of this disease and it was for this reason that we came up with an educational play that will bring a change in the way the young people think towards this killer disease that has taken the lives of many South Africans Heroes of South Africa highlight that, the struggle against apartheid is over, but asks a question to the youth what about the struggle against AIDS . It inspires young people to get together and fight this disease as a nation and not discriminate each other so they would also be considered as heroes who defeated AIDS in the future. It also reflect to the past how our heroes fought for us to be free, and again asks a question if this is the freedom they were talking about where more than 4 out of 10 South Africans are HIV positive. Amongst the heroes mentioned in the play are Nelson Mandela, Enoch Sontonga, Nkosi Johnson, Miriam Makeba and few more. The play also highlight the achievements of the Ethekwini Municipality led by Mr. Obed Mlaba and Premier Sbu Ndebele The play will be performed again in Europe in June next year for the Dutch audience which the group performed for last year in 3 International festivals in Holland. We therefore would like to invite you to come and attend the launch of this production that will be touring around South Africa next year. Date : 03 November ’05 Time : 3pm Venue : Riverdene Secondary SchoolShould you require further information about this event please dont hesitate to...
PHOTOS and REVIEW :: Jazz at ZOO lake
CLICK HERE FOR PICS OF ARTS ALIVE JAZZ AT THE LAKE WE WENT TO THE JAZZ AT THE LAKE AND HAD A MAGIC TIME…. the pictures say it all. The only weird part was the ending… once the concert had finished, most of the people – our estimate – about 90% – had already made their way peacefully back towards hom…e and transport. A few people remained, calmly finishing pff their picnics or drinks… the next thing, this ridiculous bunch of illuminous jacketed event security team (aka the yellow ants), who looked very embarrased to have to behave in such a rude way, formed this human chain and swept across the field, from the stage outwards – literally forcing people to stand up and leave. It smacked of suburban paranoia. We had to gather our things as fast as we could and get out of there. We think it’s a little overboard for crowd control and fairly rude and abrupt. Left a bad taste in our mouths after a fantastic day. Organisers -take a chillpill. ————————————————————– UPDATE Pointers for Jazz on the Lake A park and ride will be operating from the Johannesburg Civic Centre in Braamfontein The buses will drop people off at the lake. At the Jan Smuts Ave barrier there will be buses to ferry people to the lake . There will be zero tolerance to any alcohol or weapons . Police will do searches for the above at all the barriers. There are braai facilities and a beer garden available. The concert will start at 10am sharp and will end at 5pm sharp. Concert goers are invited to bring picnic baskets, blankets, umbrellas for a fun family day Residents who live in the barricaded areas can collect the residents permits at Parkview Police station with a copy of an ID document and an electricity bill.
