We went to the Joburg Gay Pride – WOW> Walking through the city surrounded by proud and loud multilcultural fabulous people was surreal. Hundreds of beaming faces popped over the piled up balconies along the route – the city residents gathered, some smiling, some laughing, some shocked, but most were loving it. The rejuvenated GAY HEARTLANDS were magnificent in their new outfit -… we are definitely going partying there soon – here’s the website. CHECK OUT OUR PHOTO’S – they say it all. ***************************************************** 23 September GAY PRIDE MARCH DETAILS WE WILL SEE YOU ALL AT THE GORGEOUS CONHILL AT 4PM!!! You’all ready for this?? – Gay Pride back in the city and Braamies in September – the more the merrier folks… Put it this way, let’s make it rock and all the better our chances will be in our bid for the Gay Games in 2010 – more on the games soon! Johannesburg Lesbian and Gay Pride Heritage Week will be celebrating its sixteenth anniversary this year during the week-long festival from 17 to 24th September, which traditionally culminates with the Pride March and Mardi Gras. The theme for this year is: “Pride – Sweet Sixteen: the Right to Be, the Freedom to Express”, and significantly, this year, Heritage Day falls on the Saturday, 24th, the day of the Pride March. Following on from the process which the Equality Project set in motion, the organised LGBTI sector, consisting of OUT from Pretoria, Forum for the Empowerment for Women and Behind the Mask, has facilitated a number of public consultative meetings to advise and involve interested stakeholders of the progress of Pride logistics. “It is our belief that bringing Pride back to the inner City and linking key historical, political and cultural places such as Constitutional Hill, Newtown and the Nelson Mandela Bridge will elevate the profile of our messaging and our engagement with diverse audiences and other sectors,” said Joburg Pride Co-ordinator, Paul Tilly. “More significantly, our ultimate objective for years to come is to establish key public and private partnerships to maximise resources. It is important for Pride to engage with the rebirth and modernisation of sub-Saharan Africa’s financial capital and we need to ensure that Joburg Pride is an annual event on the City calendar.” he said. This year’s Pride march will start off in the square at 15h30 outside the Constitutional Court at Constitution Hill chosen for its significance, both for the impending same-sex marriage case and because of the link to the world’s first Constitution to enshrine the right to sexual orientation in its Bill of Rights. The parade will then continue into town...

GOLDFISH – catch this talent live in Jozi
We’ve already heard about them from the Breathe Sunshine collection (if you haven’t got your hands on one yet – go to AMABALA and buy one! Great chill out and weekend afternoon tunes.) But now they’re performing live in Joburg at Sudada and if you’re interested in how electronic and live music can fuse in a sweet jazzy way – go and see them live. H…ere’s the 411: With the launch of GOLDFISH’s new CD, Caught in the loop, it’s time that South Africa discovered what music industry players internationally have known for some time… that there’s an exciting new sound on the world dance and groove scene, and it’s coming out of South Africa. Headed by David Poole and Dominic Peters, GOLDFISH is a breath of fresh air in the South African music scene, and in two short years this duo have indelibly stamped their mark on electronic music world-wide, with tracks appearing on compilations in Europe, Australia, USA and Asia. Their single, “Dream” has already appeared on Palace lounge presents Cafe d Afrique II, The Clio Va Va Voom Edition (track 1), as well as on Breathe Sunshine vol.2 – track 4 (voted 4th best compilation by UK music festival and website – The Big Chill). Both accomplished musicians in their own right, Dave and Dom have taken their grounding in Jazz and stepped up the pace dramatically by brining their Electronic skills into play. Combining samplers, a Groove box, Keyboards, Vocoder, upright Bass, Flute and Saxophones, what ensues is live dance remixes like we’ve never heard before. When performing live, they’re DJ’s so to speak, but there’s no predestined CD or Vinyl involved. All the musical elements are created live. Anything can happen, and often does, allowing the musicians to bring in the fluidity and spontaneity of Jazz and combine it with anything from dance to chill out. They’ve been in the studio for the past year putting the finishing touches to their long-awaited debut album, Caught in the loop, and building on a cult-like following in their home country, have also brokered a deal with UK electronica label Black Mango Music (a division of Amabala Records) release Caught in the loop in the UK. The album is a double-disc release consisting of a CD, as well as a DVD, which features a documentary\interview, and VJ set by the legendary group Iaminawe – mixing videos of Goldfish’s live performance and animation to the sounds of the album. The album is a continuation of tracks that have developed live and in the studio in the past two years, combining influences from jazz, dance, African music and downtempo,...
