WOZA SISI WOZA MAMA – White gel gets braids

I told you guys I would have it done. VOILA – enjoy!!!!!!! I encourage everyone to do it! Just make sure you have lots of time – my hair took nearly 5 hours! SIS’WAM Sis’wami goes strolling in Kerk St amongst the bustling stalls… I encourage all Joburgers to take some time off and stroll through Kerk St in town – park your car on Rissik near the Wo…olies sign and just walk there – it’s a fantastic street with all kinds of bargains – from fresh juicy fruit and veges to belts, ponchos, second hand leather jackets, takkies, newspapers, cigarettes, batteries etc – the bonus is you’ve got Woolworths and Edgars right there as well as a Specsavers and many other shops to go to as well as the market-style shops… I was suprised to hear the ladies calling out my name to come and see their braiding photo-books – I am a white girl and I have approached these ladies before and received a rather cold greeting and confused looks – possibly because I have short hair, possibly because I am an Mlungu asking for miracles… But nonetheless, with a beaming grin I strolled over to the pavement braiders to find out what they had in mind for me… False dreadlocks – says Ma’Rebecca – funny enough, if ever it was going to be braids, that’s exactly what I would go for – false dreadlocks – I haven’t seen a white chick with them yet and I don’t know how they would look but I am brave enough to give it a go… And I have always wanted dreadlocks. Malini Ma? I ask expectantly – having fallen for Ma Rebecca’s great sales pitch – EISH SISI she says – for your hair we need three packs of hair plus it is going to be expensive for the braiding… Yoh! Too much…. Now I am used to being completely ripped off by suburban hair-dressers who gooi in a free hand-massage and expect you not to swallow hard when the bill comes. Your average hairdo will cost about R600 – R800 – thats a cut, colour and blowdry… And the colour fades 2 weeks later… To prevent the colour from fading you then try and wash your hair less meaning you walk around with dirty hair a lot with a style that fell apart two days after the salon. So yes – I am both tempted and interested in what the ladies have to offer me… So I ask Ma Rebecca to add it up and give it to me – R45 x 3 for the hair makes it...
