Durbs is rocking and all next weekend!
The weather has been awesome in Joburg this winter – sunny but cool, with the odd rebellious fog – don’t know what Cape Town has been like but apparently it’s a little miserable at times. If it’s too cold for you, you know which place to head for where the weather is always good – DURBAN!!!! Next week is Vodacom Beach Africa time – which means lots of surfing, posing and jolling. There’s… loads of great music and lots more in store – check out below: For the line up click here. This year the Durban beach front will be alive with loads on the go as the Vodacom Beach Africa swings into action on the 1 – 10 July. The Mr Price Pro is the anchor event which starts on 2 July. Apart from all the competitive sports, Vodacom Beach Africa has a parallel leisure programme. Music lovers can enjoy the Mr. Price live music concerts brought to you by East Coast Radio on the North Beach stage. Concerts will take place Thursday 07th, Friday 08th and Saturday 09th July with the hottest South African bands of the moment. Sports events include the Vodacom Beach soccer and touch rugby; the volleyball tournament; beach basketball, East Coast Radio Soccer Clinic taking place daily from 13:00 to 16h30 and the Waveski contest. Educational and Fun: the Kiddies Kingdom promises to be not only entertaining for the kids but also educational. Top coaches from the well-established Busy Ballers will be keeping a watchful eye on the goings on in this arena. Both the Bungee Bounce and the Hunters Reverse Bungee will include the crowds in some of the adrenaline pumping action that is happening. If you feel like rocketing up into the sky and seeing the whole beachfront from a different perspective then we encourage you to come and enjoy in these phenomenal adventures. If these don’t satisfy you, then why not organise to go for a Joe Kools Helicopter Flip. This will give you a bird’s eye view of the Festival but also most of the Durban Beach Front. If you think the action on the beach is hot, then you should witness the models that will be walking up and down the catwalks in the Vodacom Beach Africa Fashion Shows, displaying all items of beach gear that you could imagine. And if you think you can parade down the ramp better than the models then we welcome you to enter the Miss LiquiSpritz and the Miss Pick ‘n Pay Beauty Pageants. You have seen it advertised on television and now it is happening live at the beach front. The...
Special A takes us into the dark world of the drug TIK
TIK is purported to be the latest drug of choice in the Coloured community in Cape Town, spreading it’s dark addiction and destroying numerous lives and families. IOL reports that 60% of TIk users are between the ages of 15 – 20 years old! Watch this program and be informed so we c…an put an end to this social ill. This Tuesday Special Assignment tracks the unfolding tragedy in Cape Town, where addiction to crystal methamphetamine is spreading among teenagers faster than anywhere else in the world. Since our program on the drug commonly know as tik last year, the number of people seeking help has doubled. Tik is behind the break-up of many families and in some cases it’s even leading to suicide. We spoke to a young schoolgirl who told us that in her class, 40 out of the 45 pupils regularly smoke the drug, while more and more young girls are being pushed into prostitution to support their addiction. We meet Nabu Cassiem, and her group of volunteers. They took up the challenge of the drug epidemic and provide counselling and support to recovering addicts. One of the women in the support group, Rifqa Wort an ex-tik addict, tells her story. She can’t remember anything of her past – not even giving birth to her 4-year-old daughter, Yusrah. Now she is trying to come to terms what she missed out on, and to renew the relationship with her daughter. We also join a dedicated team of crime fighters on a nine hour shift, as they raid houses of known drug dealers and tik manufacturers. Government has set up a multi-disciplinary task team to deal with the crisis. But these good intentions to stem the tide look inadequate as teenagers get hooked on a scale not seen before. Do not miss this heartbreaking story on SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT, on Tuesday at 21h30 on SABC3. It is directed by Johann Abrahams and was filmed by Shamiel Albertyn. Special Assignment 5 July 2005 SABC3...
