BIEN VENUE 2010

Delighted it’s a new year.  I love nothing more than a glittering scratch-free canvas to fill up with all my must-doings and dreams – we only have 355 days left of the much-vaunted big TEN OH so get a move on buddies.  And now that I have officially joined the ranks of those once-upon-a-time rather elusive but much-admired Mums, I have even LESS time to fill in my trusty blogazine… BUT, my gorgeous baby aside, our fabulous holiday in South Africa over December and into January just inspired me to get Represent a-bloggin once again and so… here goes. In case you’re confused, I’m Editorista, the once devoted (later disillusioned) born-and-bred Jozi aka Joburg aka Johannesburg resident (now refreshed). I’ve always kept an extremely low down sporty-cap darting-eyes approach to Represent, only sporadically talking from the heart and ‘putting it out there’, I kinda liked keeping my opinion under wraps. But some things change, for one, I have been living in Europe for the last two years, and two, I’ve got lots to say now I’m a mommy (we just don’t give a damn… poohpooh to all that jazz)  and I won’t be laying dodgy-low any longer. In line with my straddled existence of living both in Africa and Europe… (long story) Represent’s content is due for a shift too, i.e.  it’s not just gonna be a freaking calender place to advertise mediocre art exhibitions, nor will it be a parking space for spam-filter dodging posts with Russian lettering (cyrilla?) …. And while I will still continue to bow down to my mothercity Jozi, it’s also going to be about so much more than that.  Truth is, I don’t really know what it’s going to be, but it will be. And I hope you will be here too. And with that profound ending, I invite you to carry on with us on this mad journey called Laaf. Many bisous all over you! Editorista aka SJ PS: See you at the soccer! PPS: Thanks DF for the fabulous...

If you don’t know Hype-M yet…

Then you probably don’t know about Hype-M’s Zeitgeist list either. Tut Tut. Well stick with us more often and you’ll  learn all about this kind of INVALUABLE juicy musical jewel… Simpy put, besides those hyper-wack pirate bay kind of places, Hype-M is probably the best place to find free and remixed music (well it’s our best place). But even more importantly than that it’s how you know what the world’s listening to, not only today, but tomorrow too. Quick quick, all you slaves to trends and stealers of secrets, lap it up fast so you can own it and pretend it was all your idea (once again) : http://hypem.com/zeitgeist/2009 We cannot get enough of the GORGEOUS artwork that accompanies each band in this year’s Top 50 list, stunning… the Major Lazer image we show you in this post is by Andrew Strasser. Naas. We, on the other hand, having greased the palms of many a super internet whizzkid, have been using Hype-M for a while now and can claim to have been all over the following bands from the zeitgeist list from 2008 already – so if the list is a bit overwhelming for you, here’s our recommendations … you can also follow us on Twitter right here – where we always blab on about our latest favourite song. 1. The XX 2. Sebastien Tellier 3. TV On the Radio 4. Yeah Yeah Yeahs 5. Little Boots 6. La Roux 7. Major Lazer 8. Lykke Li 9. Bon Iver 10. Cut Copy 11. Florence and the Machine 12. Kid Cudi PS: Thanks Hype-M you...

Don’t miss Usha Seejarim @ Gallery Momo

While waiting for a very important pitch (VIP) at MTN headoffice a few years back (that big bold building situated way too far outside of our Jozi bubble but it’s ok cos they got larney furniture and fittings…) we were met in the foyer by an amused client who found the bunch of us staring awestruck, mouths agape at this massive cascading paperclip chandelier suspended from the roof. That was when we first heard the name Usha Seejarim; and we’ve never forgotten it since. Flash forward to 2009 and you too can stare dumbstruck at her work at the Momo Gallery – I miss going there for opening nights – always lots of wine, a fab crowd and good Jozi vibe.  Wine is important.  Oh ja, and by the way, of course we won the pitch. Usha Seejarim – Mine over Matter opening 5 november @ 18h30 – 20h00 concludes 30 november 09 # 52 7th Avenue, Parktown North, 2193,...
