It’s time TED time!

TEDxJohannnesburg has secured the rights to stream TED2014 live to a public audience for one day only, on Tuesday 18 March from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. The venue is the hospitable JoziHub at 44 Stanley Avenue, in Milpark Johannesburg. This year marks TED’s 30th anniversary, and sees the event move from Longbeach in California, to Vancouver in Canada. Chris Anderson, TED’s curator, had this to say on this year’s theme: “The theme for TED2014 is simply this: ‘The Next Chapter’. We’ll be seeking to understand what are truly the most significant developments of the last 30 years… and applying that knowledge to understand what’s ahead. The theme makes it easy for us to reach out to the world’s greatest minds and challenge them to help shape a program better than any in our history—in an unforgettable custom theater designed for talk.” The webcast focuses on Sessions 2 and 3 — ‘Retrospect’ and ‘Reshape‘. Highlights of these sessions include Hollywood special effects tech designer and magic-maker Bran Ferren, LGBTQ documentary filmmaker Yoruba Richen, and ace DJ-cum-music producer Mark Ronso. We’ll also hear from legendary type designer Mathew Carter, New York’s High Line urban planner Amanda Burden, and Chinese sustainability activist Peggy Liu. The pick of the day though, promises to be cruciverbalist David Kwong, who creates illusions for films and TV, and makes verbal magic as a crossword puzzle maker for the New York Times. “TED2014 is a pivotal event in the history of TED,” says TEDxJohannesburg convener Kelo Kubu, “The move to a new location and a custom designed theatre will add renewed vigour to what is already an awesome offering.” For a R120 contribution you get to enjoy a live connection to two sessions at the most important TED event of the year. Snacks and refreshments included. So make sure you can say ‘My friends and I saw that talk before it went on TED.com’. Get your...
