TICKETS! Rock is back and it’s Black!

*To win a pair of tickets for Friday please email the editor with subject BLK JKS, include your name, age and cell number asap!*  Well that’s what the Weekly Mail said about the dark and deep rockers BLK JKS – see if it’s true this Friday at the Bohemian in Richmond, near Melville (leave all comfort requirements at home).  Last time we saw the dudes in action we were way impressed – I remember thinking “a South African RadioHead” (if that is remotely possible.) We’ve also heard a lot about Desmond and the Tutu’s although the name makes us cringe and certainly a bit skeptical of them.  Wonder what uBabe Tutu thinks?  We just have too much respect to use his name in vain but maybe we’re being old and boring?  Surely there could be better name options – besides the association, it just sounds so corny…and you know Editorista can’t take corn.  We’ll have to check them out and let you know but they’re going to have to persuade us. The BLK JKS – Natalia (Cpt) – Desmond & Tutus @ Bohemians – Friday 8th June The winning combination of The BLK JKS with Desmond & the Tutus is rekindled to heat up the winter night on Friday the 8th June at Bohemians, alongside Natalia the special guest folk /pop singer songwriter from Cape Town. Dates: Friday 8th June Venue: Bohemians Address: 5 Park Rd. Richmond (Just off Empire Rd. Melville) Entrance: R30 Info: 076-590-0564 or MovementMedia@gmail.com Websites: http://www.thebo.co.za/; – www.myspace.com/BLKJKS – www.rock.co.za/natalia Line Up: BLK JKS – Desmond & the Tutus – Natalia (Cpt) The BLK JKS “Rock is back, and it’s black!” –Weekly Mail. Firstly it’s pronounced ‘The Black Jacks’, and they certainly are the talk of the town at the moment, with fans of this unique African Rock outfit eagerly awaiting the release of their long overdue EP, which is finally being launched on June the 15th at the Apartheid Museum. Natalia The young singer song writer from the Mother City is currently on her second tour of Joburg, having performed the Cape Town circuit since the tender age of 15, she’s already had the honour of sharing the stage with the legendary Rodriguez on his latest SA...

Sweaty Takkie at the Bat Centre

We don’t usually publish a lot of goings-on in Deben (just cos the Jozi ones keep us busy enough!) , BUT this one had to go on – for one it’s being held at one of Editorista’s old stomping grounds – the wonderfully positioned and super-looking (is it still?) BAT centre at the Durban harbour (great sundowners spot) and number two, the name of this gig just cracked us up.  Oh ja and we like the flyer. So, Durbanites, get to Sweaty Takkie at the Batcentre for some ‘minimal breaks’ electro and indie beats. VALERIE SAVARY – Valérie Savary, Portrait de femmeacrylic, 60 x 50 cm Valerie Savary started painting at the age of eight and, for the following 10 years, took drawing lessons which taught her the techniques of mastering subjects such as the ocean, trees and portraiture. She then completed her basic training by drawing nudes for another two years. Acrylics are her preferred medium, which she finds more modern and practical than oils or watercolours. KIRA OWEN – Kira Owen, Ngwene womanacrylic on canvas, 76 x 61 cm Since childhood, Kira Owen has lived in many different countries and has always had a keen interest in art and design, often influenced by her immediate surroundings. She studied decorative painting, specialising in faux finishes and trompe l’oeil, at the Hampstead Decorative Art School in London and undertook a number of commissions for private clients. In the late 90’s she spent four years in New York City working for a graphic design agency where she was exposed to many different creative techniques. AUDE FACQUET – Aude Facquet, Femme Zuluacrylic, 26 x 21 cm Aude Facquet paints primarily with oils, preferably with a palette knife. “My Man’s all over Aqua Teen Hunger Force”

Sisiwami is jealous of a cartoon – we wish her luck:  Reading up about Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Wikipedia I find out it’s been around since 2000.  I’m so relieved my man only got into it in 2007 ‘coz he just can’t get enough and I’m fighting for attention from a pack of french fries and his two mates. OK – so he’s got a mind unlike any other I know (hence…) so if you like stuff that is off-the-wall, twisted and slightly dark, make sure to watch a few episodes of ATHF on YouTube – You’ll LOVE it.  You can watch the bag of chips (Frylock), a milkshake (Master Shake) and a hamburger pattie (Meatwad) hanging out with their bad-rock-music-listening neighbour Carl.  It’s sick! (as in awesome and gross in this instance) Here’s an intro from Wikipedia: The show is about three anthropomorphic fast food items and their life together in New Jersey. The Aqua Teens were originally billed as a detective crime fighting unit; as the series progressed, however, the crime-solving aspect of the show was quickly abandoned. There is very little continuity between episodes; almost all recurring cast members have died at least once. The focus is instead on character interaction and a pervasive form of sarcastic and surreal humor. Gross out, brutal, and morbid humor were added as the series progressed. ATHF is part of the globally popular adult cartoon package [Adult Swims] that airs on DSTV’s GO TV from 23:00 to 01:00.  You can also watch another of my beau’s favourites during Adult Swims like Robot Chicken and there’s also The Brak Show, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, The Venture Bros, Stroker and Hoop and Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law. Or you can do like my man does and watch a few episodes on YouTube. There’s an Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie coming out this year… see IMDB here for...
