BASTILLE TOURS SA TO THE POWER OF 5FM

“But if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all…” will echo through the valleys of Kirstenbosch Gardens and the parks of Emmarentia Dam in January 2014. That’s right, Bastille is coming to our shores for the first time and will perform two live shows in Cape Town on 8 January 2014 and Johannesburg on 11 January 2014. Seed Experiences, in partnership with 5FM, are bringing Bastille – hailed as one of Britain’s most exciting new bands. Fans will rock out to ‘Bad Blood’, ‘Overjoyed’, ‘Flaws’ and the chart-topping ‘Pompeii’ in the magnificent surrounds of SA’s greenest festival locations. As well as drawing the biggest crowd ever at Glastonbury’s John Peel Stage, Bastille has drawn huge numbers at many of the UK’s summer festivals and continues to play high-profile slots at many more. Their debut album ‘Bad Blood’ is the biggest selling debut album of the year with near-platinum sales, and the album is one of the top 10 biggest selling albums of the year.  It was recently voted byGuardian readers as one of their favourite albums of 2013 and the single ‘Pompeii’ has sold over 1,000,000 copies and has now gone platinum. Entertainment powerhouse 5FM is synonymous for bringing the best in music entertainment to their fans and has been at the forefront of supporting Bastille since breaking their single in 2012. It’s also no surprise that award-winning experiential marketing agency, Seed Experiences, would choose a groundbreaking act like Bastille to grow and diversify its portfolio of music events. About the tour venues and dates: Bastille tours SA takes place on Wednesday 8 January 2014 at Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden from 19h15.  There will be no bars so fans can bring their own picnic baskets but are reminded that Kirstenbosch is bin free – whatever is brought in must be taken out. Call for proposals 2014!

The Goethe-Institut is known worldwide for promoting intercultural engagement through fostering dialogue and exchange in the arts. GoetheOnMain was developed by the Goethe-Institut South Africa and launched in May 2009 at Arts on Main in Johannesburg as a non-commercial, artist-run project space – an exceptional free platform in a city where cultural spaces are either commercially or governmentally managed. The multi-disciplinary GoetheOnMain has since hosted a wide range of exhibitions, workshops, events and performances; including visual art, literature, film, music, dance, and theatre projects. The way in which project selection takes place is central in understanding the philosophy of GoetheOnMain. In order to create an unbiased and open platform, the programme is decided by an independent committee of arts professionals, who meet after the yearly public call for proposals. Projects are invariably hotly debated. The focus above all else is on artistic quality, whilst maintaining a sensitivity for the context and local relevance, and favouring an experimental approach. The GoetheOnMain space itself also implies a certain conceptual frame – that of the city, or a sense of ‘urbanity’: a focus on the human relation as much as built environment. Previous projects at GoetheOnMain have dealt extensively with politics of space, noting the stratified city, gentrification, issues of access, and a loss of the ‘center’ so typical of many world metropolises, but also of the personal as political – focusing on private narratives, identities, eccentricities, and broader global issues affecting the city dweller. Project realisation: March to December 2014 Deadline for submissions: 15 August 2013 Send your proposals here:...
