Represent’s on the way to TOKYO
MOSHIMOSHI! “Tokyo has more vending machines than any other city in the world, with over 2.5 million selling drinks, and hundreds of thousands more selling cigarettes, batteries, rice, eggs, fishing equipment, flower bouquets, and of course, pornography.” Lonely Planet. You know that we go to the ‘nth’ degree to bring you the Good Life and the most fabulous news of all is that our very own SJ aka the original Editorista will be jetting off to her most favourite fantasy destination TOKYO, JAPAN (thanks to Brutal Fruit!). It’s probably the furthest one can go from South Africa and we cannot wait to find out all about it… She will be blogging from there next week and sending us loads of photos and video’s introducing us to one of the most fascinating cities and cultures on earth. In her quest to fill her itinerary with only the most incredible things to do, SJ came across all kinds of wild and wonderful websites that she wanted to share with you – thanks to Aquoibon for the love, support and info! *SO you know all about 43things.com already – well how about http://www.43places.com/ – it’s a bit like LonelyPLanet’s Thorntree or VirtualTourist where you can post questions about the place that you are visiting and members mail you back. The biggest difference is the rate at which it happens… super fast! Next time you travel just post a question on the place you’re heading to and the answers will appear in your inbox. Oh ja, and if you’re very into South Africa, you can give people answers to their questions on Jozi or Slaapies or wherever…. *The Japanese are reknowned for their incredible sense of aesthetics and their design gurus – some of you will recognise the fashion icons Issey Miyake, Kenzo, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garcons and Hanae Mori … We’ll definitely be swinging by at least one of their fabulous headquarters. On the subject of design, check out this bare and sparse hairdressing salon in Tokyo designed by the Isolation Unit – quite a change from our over-the-top bokkie hives. Thanks to Dezeen: “Isolation Unit, the product and interiors company established by designer Teruhiro Yanagihara, has sent us images of a recently completed hair salon in Tokyo. The salon is for fashionable Japanese hairdressing chain Lim and consists of a theatrically minimal installation within the host building’s untreated concrete frame. The project was completed late last year. Photographs are by Takumi Ota.” *Sushi anyone? From Weird Asia news: “Japan as a country never stops amazing us. I am sure you have heard of, or seen the “Nyotaimori” (literally means female body plate),...
We love Sendomatic – your personal RSVP system
Wedding coordinators, events organisers and super control freaks take note….The other day a friend was having a housewarming and instead of sending a boring old email (isn’t email so 2006) she sent us a “sendomatic invitation”… Which in essence is simply an online invitation and RSVP service. So what that means is that you can design your invite for your event online, send it from sendomatic and then have all your RSVP’s automated through it. If you’re RSVP’ing and care about the ‘who’s who’ you can even check out the RSVP list to see which shlebs will be there before you send your reply. FABULOUS! Of course it means that your friends all need to be web fluent or at least have access to email and internet ….and with all good things there comes a price. Well that’s unless you’re norma-no-mates with only 4 friends then you can do it all for free, but from 4 friends up you’re going to pay a fee. Check it out...

Idols West Africa
Channel 37 is back on DSTV- it’s the Idols channel of course and if you’re a reality TV junkie then you would have already watched hours of the Idols West Africa auditions! The competition started on Sunday February 18, and will end on May 27. The channel will offer about 16 hours of content daily, starting at 08:00 CAT and ending at midnight. Represent will be keeping an eye on the drama that is sure to come with the Idols competition entrants and the fascinating judges Dede Mabiaku, Abrewa Nana and Dan Foster- this trio is more entertaining than the contestants themselves at times. Some of the highlights include the first performer a guy called David who broke down in front of the judges when he was told he would not be moving onto Planet One (the next stage of the competition) and a guy who swore at the judges when he was failed. Fashion Week: “Vukani Madoda Sekusile!”
Bold colours, vibrancy and Africanism were the main elements of the Vukani Fashions collection. Famous for the design of the “Madiba shirt” back in 1990 Sonwabile Ndamase has been making bold statements ever since. Also, you know those really hot sexy outfits that the SABC ‘Top Sport’ presenters wear? That’s Vukani! Vince checked out the show… The collection by Vukani was very bold with lots of blacks and whites in the beginning making up a collection that I would classify as office wear with a delicious twist. Playful but well designed men’s and women’s denim jackets got the crowd excited and hot polka dot dresses, jacket and skirt seemed to be the order of the day. This collection is a real beauty but definitely not for the faint hearted as you need a bit of boldness to pull some of these off! Colourful silk dresses with trails made a huge entry I just loved the green & white dress with Ndebele beads! Click here to see photos from the show. These images are supplied by Audi Joburg Fashion Week, click here to go to the...
