JAMESON AND CINEMA NOUVEAU’S FINE BLEND

Joburg lovers of good flieks, our favourite movie house, Cinema Nouveau, is finally getting some well-earned sponsorship from the Irish whiskey brand JAMESON. Good on ya Jameson! So does this mean we can have it on the rocks while we watch? Cinema Nouveau is adding a twist of flavour to the art movie circuit – it will now be triple distilled and twice as smooth. Ster-Kinek…or’s dedicated art circuit, Cinema Nouveau, the only one of its kind in the world, has signed a sponsorship deal with Jameson whiskey. Effective immediately, Cinema Nouveau will now be known as Cinema Nouveau screened by Jameson. The new partnership between Jameson whiskey and Cinema Nouveau will ensure ongoing support for the growing alternative film market. The whiskey distillers’ involvement, in line with its global cinema strategy, will include film festival support; the introduction of audience awards at festivals, as well as hosting invite only screenings of classic films amongst other activities. The prestigious and significant partnership will see Cinema Nouveau screened by Jameson introducing a new brand identity, with new dýcor in the foyer, new staff uniforms and signage at cinemas nationwide, as well as added value for the film industry and audiences. Jameson whiskey has been known for over a decade of involvement in cinema, particularly in the field of short films and as a participant in European film festivals. Apart from funding a number of emerging directors as part of the European Encounters Film Festival, they have been presenting Jameson Short Film Awards since 2001, with the aim of supporting filmmakers and enhancing the profile of the winning directors and their films. Commented Adriaan Eksteen, Jameson Marketing Director, “Jameson is involved in film and film-making on a global level. This is a natural extension of the work we do internationally. We find a lot of modern, discerning moviegoers amongst our consumers, so not only is this a sound marketing strategy, but also a meeting of likeminded personalities.” In South Africa Jameson whiskey will be hosting its audience awards for the fifth year at the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival, which runs in Johannesburg from Fri 5 August – Sun14 August. The Jameson Audience Awards at Encounters were established in 2001 and are decided by popular ballot. These Awards are very important, precisely because they are not decided by a panel of ‘experts’, but by popular choice and praise documentary filmmakers for their work. Two Awards are presented by Jameson whiskey – one for the Best International Film and one for the Best South African...

MINI COMES CRASHING THROUGH WALL!

MINI COMES CRASHING THROUGH WALL!

While driving on the M1 on Wednesday morning towards Midrand, my bubbly friend and I were stopped short in the middle of a good gossip by one of Joburg’s latest brilliant advertising concepts – Now it had to be really good to get us to shut-up! It’s the MINI driving up the wall of Melrose Arch that looks out onto the highway – it’s amazing. We never got the chance to get a pho…to, but trust in Dikatso from Marketing Web to get the scoop! Thanks Dikatso Mametse and Marketing Web! Click here to go to Original Article: Have you seen Mini’s new ‘experiential’ billboard on the freeway? For the first time in years some new, innovative form of outdoor advertising broke my concentration on the road the other day and made me look. I was driving home from a mates house one evening on the M1 North just off Melrose Arch, when lo’ and behold, I saw a mini which looked like it was driving up a wall complete with tyre tracks. The car was actually stationary, but looked like it had just broken through a wall in a parking lot, and was driving up that wall. I almost caused an accident just looking at this new ‘experiential’ billboard, which instantly drew my attention. Mini’s general manager Diana Blake said that they were initially going to have the catch-line, ‘break out’, or ‘break through’ attached to the billboard illustrating mini’s frustrations with having to share parking space with other cars. “But we’ve decided to let our audience interpret the advert for themselves,” Blake said. Well anything that breaks through brick walls and can climb up those walls sure sounds like a super hero, a Spiderman of sourts rushing off to save the world. Blake says that the mounted mini is fibreglass and at 200kg weighs 1050kg less than a real mini. “What we try to do together with our ad agency King James and our PR company Nota Bene with our adverts, is very much in line with our strategy, look for new advertising spaces to break free from the clutter,” she said. Blake said that more of these fibreglass clones would be mounted on more creative advertising...

J’Adore South Africa… I adore South Africa winner

We missed this fabulous competition but thought we’d let you know about it as we’re sure some of you knew already and some may even have entered! Plus it means you can start working for the next one! Well, we hope there’s a next one! Congrats to the winners and enjoy GAY PARIS!!! J’adore South Africa! The competition, DESIGN YOUR WAY TO PARIS as part of the Fr…ench and South African Business relationship campaign entitled “J’Adore South Africa”, was aimed at all students studying design, multimedia, film and animation. They were asked to prove themselves with a 30sec to 2min multimedia, film or animation showing the business relationship between France & South Africa. They had to highlight the differences or similarities between these two countries and how they collaborate with each other through business. The first prize was/is a rare opportunity to spend a month in Paris at the Renault design Office WOW!!!) and their Publicis Paris Advertising Agency, with accommodation and living expenses sponsored by Renault, and Air France pledging their support with a return flight ticket. The competition’s jury consisting of media specialists evaluated the competition based Artistic interpretation of the brief, creativity, technical skills and aspects, exploration of the brief, and meeting the brief accurately. Once registered, students were requested to provide a story board accompanied by an A4 page rationale by July 25. From these storyboard entries the jury judged the concepts, and chose 50 finalists. The finalists moved to the next level, which was to produce the 30sec to 2min multimedia, film or animation in a Quicktime, AVI and MPEG format. The final 50 submissions of multimedia entries closed on September 30. The winner of the J’adore South Africa campaign’s French Briefs Design Competition 2005, an initiative from the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) has been announced and 2nd year AFDA Film & Drama Design student, Brett Michael Innes is looking forward to spending a month in Paris with the Renault Design Office and their Publicis Paris Agency, courtesy of Renault. The flight will be provided by Air France. Brett’s storyboard turned to film; an intimate exchange of ideas between an African warrior and a French explorer captures the one vital thing keeping the relationship between France and South Africa flourishing in the international business sphere, passion. It is reminiscent of the African saying “When lions meet, they can move a mountain”. The 3rd prize winner is Shogan Naidoo, a third year student at Wits University who received R5000 towards his studies sponsored by the FSACCI. The second prize winner 2nd year student from the Design Center is Leungo Tumedi...
