Sunday is the new Saturday in Joburg Inner City

Check out our latest Johannesburg inner city pics here. Blown away by the number of sold signs on buildings throughout the inner city of Johannesburg, we decided to document some of the changes for out of towners and those still too scared to check it out for themselves. The inner city is transforming before our ey… es, it’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint and some basic interior overhauls can do to our stunning architecture. And for those of you wanting to catch some bargains from the plethora of cheap and trendy boutique style shops, don’t even bother to join the Saturday rush. Simply drive down Pritchard on a Sunday morning, park near the supreme court, take a moment to enjoy the soaring singing from the Central Methodist Church that fills the air and get shopping. Yes, there are a few shops open on a Sunday – bargain hunters paradise. So put away your bling, put your phone in your pocket and get walking downtown on a Sunday in the inner city – it does wonders for the calf muscles. Oh ja, remember you need cash, no credit cards etc, but at R30 – R80 a buy, you don’t need to feel nervous about carrying wads around. Check out the pics of the city on a Sunday right...

Joburg youth give JAY-Z their vote

Check out our pics of the concert on Flickr here. You know we’re not big on the dome as a concert venue, but last night was the first time that we saw it packed to almost capacity, it’s true colours finally shining through as a well organised and smooth flowing event venue. Jay-Z gave a sterling pe… rformance to the thousands of young, younger and really young fans packing out the dome and getting down. Fashion, hair, diversity, colour, dancemoves, electric vibes, the Jozi youth gave their vote to jigga as their favourite MC as they sang along to every lyric of every song, most of which were not commercial hits. We were so proud of our ecclectic, loud, proud and beautiful young Joburg people who certainly know just how to Represent in their very own way! We dig you guys and are behind your mission 100%. HipHop had a heydey in the parking lot as well as boot parties, street parties and any old sommer party thumped on through the night for those who weren’t inside the concert. The forefathers of Northgate shopping centre were probably turning in their graves as the youth of the now gave the finger to suburbia and rocked the night ghetto style. Jay-Z was tight, with a simple stage layout and awesome central screen, it felt good not to do the neck straining thing to the side screens for a change and even though the place was packed out, it was spacey, chilled and fabulous. We missed Rihanna, on purpose, so we can’t tell you ’bout her. But as far as the ‘Hov went….as my friend Lerato put it: “Super Awesome.” Tell us about your concert experience – leave a comment! ************************************************************************** We’re just reminding you that JAY-Z is here in less than two weeks… So if you ain’t got your tickets yet, best you hurry! Before we get to the serious part of this article, did you know that on the London leg of Jay-Z’s tour NAS jumped onto stage with him? MTV tells us that NAS was hinting at joining Jay-Z on the African part of his tour – so NAS fans – get buying too! Who knows who could be jumping onto the stage. Where do we start with Nas he has a lot going on. Last week, he jumped onstage with Jay-Z in London and said he might join Hov for more stops on the Global Express Tour. MTV gives us the lowdown: Nas onstage in London “There are some conversations me and Jay are having about doing some more tour dates,” Nas said last week in the...

Who’s your Fairy Godmother?

You got to love this city and all the crazy, wonderful and eclectic people that live here. One of Represent’s favourite people, best friends and supa-fly entrepreneur, Donna McCallum, has reinvented herself as a Fairy Godmother and she’s waving her wand all over our world. Donna uses her skills and experience to help individuals dreams come true and we love her. She’s holding … a workshop on how to hone in your dream mapping skills – if you are feeling lost, overwhelmed, confused, stuck in a rut (we’ve all been there!) and you’re looking for a way forward, go on her workshop – you’ll love it. Here’s the word: Donna McCallum calls herself a fantastically fabulous and magical Fairy Godmother. So for those of you wanting to make your dreams come true, here’s your lady. She has a business called Fairy Godmother Inc. which has the purpose of spreading the message that it is possible to live your dreams and helps companies and individuals turn their vision into reality. And while you may think this all sounds a bit “airy fairy”, Donna has the credentials to prove that she has certainly made things happen in her own life and has a number of great clients that she is Fairy Godmothering now. Being a serial entrepreneur Donna started living her dreams at the age of 19 when she was one of the founders of Studentwise Media Services an media company specialising in Youth Focused media which included SL Mag, Y Mag, Campus Radio Stations and Events on Campuses. After 3 years she sold her stake in the business, donned a backpack, travelled round the world and then decided to join the “internet gold rush” in San Francisco in the late 90’s. Experiencing Dot Com Boom and Bust she returned home to SA and started iKineo, an innovative marketing company specialising in CRM and brand activation. Remember those Lucky Strike parties, Donna’s previous business was a key proponent in making those parties happen. After building a successful business over 5 years she then sold it and took a year off in South America. Having experienced turning her own visions and dreams into reality she has now started Fairy Godmother Inc. to help others do the same. With offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town Fairy Godmother Inc. is waving its wand throughout South Africa. Fairy Godmother Inc. runs workshops for companies and individuals and also does consulting and coaching for longer term projects. So if you are keen to get yourself a Fairy Godmother and get clear on your vision and dreams then check out the Dream Mapping Workshops being run in...
