Music channel MTV Base (DStv Channel 322), Citroën and the stylish DS3 Cabrio are joining forces to offer a truly life-changing experience for one aspiring young South African.
Starting 12 June, MTV Base and Citroën are launching a search for a brand new MTV Base VJ to front their own weekly TV series on MTV’s flagship music channel. The lucky winner will receive a one-year contract with MTV Base, worth over ZAR 500,000, and a fabulousDS3 Cabrio, courtesy of Citroën, worth ZAR 315,000. The new VJ will become one of the key “faces” of the music network, hosting programmes on MTV Base as well as interviewing stars, MC-ing entertainment events, walking the red carpet at showbiz functions, and travelling all over the continent representing MTV Base.
Celebrity judges who will be analyzing the contestants on their potential to be an MTV VJ will include Bonang Matheba (@Bonang_M), Sizwe Dhlomo (@SizweDhlomo) and Joey Rasdien (@joeyrasdien).
To help find the ultimate new MTV Base VJ, MTV Base and Citroën will host three separate open auditions in South Africa during July, including:
13 July – Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Durban
20 July – Tyger Valley Shopping Centre, Cape Town
27 July – The Venue, Melrose Arch.
MTV Base’s new VJ will be following in the footsteps of MTV Base VJs Sizwe Dhlomo (@SizweDhlomo), Fikile Moeti (@Fixsacious),Nomuzi Mabena (@NoMoozlie) and Ehis Okoeguale (@SpecialSlim) whose lives were transformed after they won previous MTV Base VJ searches in 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2013, respectively. Aged just 21, Sizwe gave up a promising career as a computer programmer to step into the limelight with MTV Base, while Nomuzi swapped life as a student for a high profile career on MTV Base and e.tv. Computer electronics graduate Ehis now presents the Official Naija Top 10 on MTV Base. After several years with MTV Base, Moeti is now a respected MC and radio DJ on 5FM.
