MARYSE & NSEKA – Blues folk – Congo DRC
Born in Kinshasa of musical families, Maryse Ngalula and Nseka Bienvenu met in Johannesburg in 2002. Deciding to work together, they formed an original duet. Maryse has a deep and warm voice while Nseka sings in a high-pitched voice. Their lyrics, sung in French, Tshiluba and Lingala, relate as much the stories of painful exiles as those of joyful family reunions back home.
Maryse & Nseka are presently preparing their second album which, we already know, will sound of blues with an acoustic edge. They will introduce it for the first time on stage at the Francophonite 2007.
KCYC – Gum boot dance
KCYC is a youth club founded in 1986, an after-school programme which deals with art for children and youth in and outside of Kliptown (Soweto). The show “Buya Africa” is a mix of gum boot and traditional dancing.
VIA VOSLOORUS YOUTH CLUB – Pantsula dance
Via Vosloorus is an organisation created by Master Meshack Letlhake. It aims at improving the standard of dance and using dance as a tool to educate young artists as well as expose their talent nationally and internationally. Via Vosloorus, having performed on many occasion, has won many hearts in the nine provinces of South Africa. It benefits form the support of the National Arts Council. The many activities of Via Vosloorus include pantsula, traditional and gumboot dancing. It has gained great recognition around the country.
VLISCO – Fashion show
This collection utilises the heritage of the African designs from the world-renowned fabric producer, Vlisco International. The alignment of modern fashion and traditional fabrics makes for a unique look that expresses the now.
BEN MONTRESOR – DJ – France
“Young Old School DJ” from Radio Nova (Paris), Ben Montresor can play African Vibes, Jazz and Afro Jazz, Hip Hop and House, Techno, Drum’n’Bass and Lounge… A “savoir-faire” he uses to cook funky eclectic combos with global spices and a classy franco-phonic style, giving a scrumptuous sound dimension to the famous French Cuisine that will enchant your bodies and souls for an experience on the floor you won’t forget!

Tereska and Laverne Muishond call themselves!Bushwomen, a name that reflects their pride in being descendents of the wise, humble and spiritual indigenous people of South Africa – the Khoi, San and the Bushmen. These talented sisters incorporate poetry with song and dance. Their stage performance is filled with energy and their words and lyrics are bound to ignite the fire of the soul. LES MOTS MIGRATEURS / MIGRANT WORDS – Exhibition
Over the centuries, French has been enriched with thousands of words that come from elsewhere, while other languages in turn continued to borrow a part of their vocabulary from French. This exhibition illustrates the essential role of exchanges between languages in the creation of French, but also to highlight French’s contribution to the world’s languages.
