Get Urban in Durban at the DDC meets Red Eye
The Mercury DDC meets Red Eye!
Once again our Deben Dee-Va keeps us informed as to what is going down in the sub-tropics.
The Durban Designers Collection (DDC), the biggest event on Durban’s fashion calendar, celebrates it’s 25th birthday this year.
In keeping with the drive to draw people back into Durban’s ‘cultural precinct’ at night and as part of the city’s…
broader inner-city regeneration plans, the organisers have decided to merge this year’s DDC with the May Red Eye, to turn the show into a larger entertainment event.
Designers fall into three categories: The Mercury ‘Invited Designer’ category; the Mr Price ‘Young Designer’ category; and the Brutal Fruit ‘New Generation Designer’ category.
Many of South Africa’s established designers began their careers as up-and-coming designers at the DDC. The ‘Invited Designers’ for this year include Laurie and Gary Holmes {‘The Holmes Brothers’), Paul Botha (‘Ruff Tung’), Leigh Schubert, Terrence Bray and Simona Mugnai-Rogan (‘Blond’)
The event takes place on the 13th and 14th of May at the laah-nee Durban City Hall. The after party takes place across the road at the Playhouse (“Yay! Bring back the days of the Playhouse Raves!” I hear some say&)
