Varan had the pleasure/displeasure of watching his SOLD OUT WITH A WAITING LIST performance last night at the Dance Umbrella = here’s his take:
I really loved Steven Cohen’s performance . Anyone that screens a live endoscopic video of their rectum over nazi songs and manages to stay meaningful and esthetically appealing should deserve our undivided attention. The performance could be described as a human collage where a collection of potent symbols and icons, often antagonistic in their meaning, are layered on top of each other, creating warped, disturbing, new meanings.
Elu’s performance (spinoff?), in comparison, was lame and rather pointless. A few interesting moments now and then, but overall it was kak. Don’t have much to say about it actually.
