Isidingo. A year after the devastating Fire!
When we learned of Isidingo’s studios catching fire it was a devastating reality for everyone whose a fan or know of the soapy. Quickly, the social network Twitter was full of speculations as who caused the fire, one tweet in particular referenced the fictional character “Cherel Hains” as the one who burnt down studio 6. A laugh we all had. Fast forward to this year, they reveal how it all went down. A triumphant story after the jump.
A year ago; on 13 June; darkness fell on the Isidingo set; a devastating fire engulfed the Isidingo sets at SABC’s Henley Studios in Auckland Park and completely destroyed the studios housed in Studio 6.
The writers immediately took a 180° turn to continue with telling stories in one of the country’s most popular TV soap. They looked at how mines can have an impact on the lives of its communities. The residents of Horizon Deep were forced into one space to deal with life and death together as their social standing had no value in the face of the disaster. The extended storyline which focused on one particular issue was filmed entirely on location.
A year on and the journey of Isidingo continues with telling the stories that get people talking; stories that are relevant and that the audiences can identify with. Recent stories such as the mine disaster that brought the community of Horizon Deep together as they face devastation of mine rock falls with some miners losing their lives and Nikiwe Sibeko and Frank Xavier losing their child. A devastation that will have terrible effect on Frank as he tries to move on with his life. As Barker will learn that all that glitters is not gold.
Executive Producer for Isidingo, Pumla Hopa, says “It has been a quite a year and a challenging journey as the team tried to find their feet and continued working tirelessly to get back on track by producing a number one Soap in the country.” She added, “Today we are celebrating and are proud of where we are and what we have in store for our views, as the Channel and Production are in reparation of the 15th Anniversary of Isidingo coming up in July”.
