T THE DOOR- there is a broad range of performers to choose from and its staged all over our glowing city.
I had a glance at the program and spotted a couple of shows I can reccommend – I remember seeing Boyzie Cekwana perform a few umbrellas back – yum yum those abs – he’s got his show CUT on March 11 & 12 – Wits downstairs theatre 19h30. The FIRST PERFORMANCE ON MARCH 11 is SOLD OUT!!!
The final week of the FNB Dance Umbrella 2005, opens at The Dance Factory on March 14 & 15 at 19:30 with a new work from PJ Sabbagha. STILL HERE is an investigation and exploration of the stories and narratives of our experience over the past 10 years. In creating this work, Sabbagha has collaborated with Jennifer Ferguson and others.
For some mind-bending check out a triple bill programme at The Wits Downstairs Theatre on March 16 & 17 at 20:00 . The programme includes Steven Cohen and Elu who have been resident in France for the past two years with the Chopinot Ballet Company. They will present MUNK/PUNK by Elu (see PIC) and DANCING INSIDE OUT by Steven Cohen. The third piece in this programme is the controversial piece SO IS ‘N OS GEMAAK by Peter van Heerden. These guys are WAY-OUt – don’t expect a pas de deux.
The final programme takes place at The Wits Theatre on March 18 & 19 at 19:30. This features works from the two Phillip Stein Grant recipients: Athena Mazarakis and Hlengiwe Lushaba as well as UNKNOWN CITIZENS by Mdu Mtshali. The fourth choreographer in this programme is Tebby Ramasike who has been resident in Europe for the past 10 years and he makes his comeback to this country with a work entitled IF YOU CAN’T CHAIN MY SOUL, THEN CHAIN THE WORLD.
