50FunkYears! will come to you Live starting at 15:00 in the afternoon, through to 03:00 – a 323 you will neva 4get that will be broken into Three (3) segments, as follows:

1) 15:00 – 19:00 – Jazzin’ Out Loud with VOICE
*50FunkYears! starts with a Jazzy Afternoon as we listen to one of the tightest jazz acts today, VOICE featuring Marcus Wyatt – Fluge Horn & Trumpet; Herbie Tsoaedi – Double Bass; Andile Yenana – Piano; Sydney Mnisi – Sax; and Morabo Morejele – Drums + Guest Artists. VOICE will be jamming the sounds of the Blue Notes – one of the last South African jazz acts to be exiled by Apartheid in the sixties… an act that went on to “bring back Jazz to London”, as they took on a residency at Ronnie Scotts… We been funky 4-2Long!

DJ Smiling Lion, will drop us some Jazz on Dex featuring the sounds of Coltrane, Kippie, Nina Simone, Mama Afrika… As we will be saying “Thank you to the Great Generation of Yesteryear”, we encourage all to invite your parents and kids for the afternoon session. And as this will be a family day, there will be lots for kids to do in the surrounding child-friendly courtyard. The menu will include Afro-Soul Food, a Spit Braai, and lots of Fruits & Roots 4 Da’ Ital Khru!;

2) 19:00 – 22:00 – Back 2Africa Wid da QUEENS

21:00 – 22:00 After waiting for so long to have these fine divas of song bless the PolitBuro stage, a miracle has finally happened! MAHOTELLA QUEENS have been grooving since 1964, to this very day these powerful African women are still rocking the world! Together with the late Mahlathini, and the killer Makgona Tsohle Band, they revolutionarised the sound of Mbaqanga… We could not have been more honoured than to finally work with this South African Institution of Sound whose beautiful harmonies and dances will take us back to the “days gone-by”…

19:00 – 21:00 Richard Nwamba of the African Connection on SAfm will ease us into the evening with an African musical journey from Cape to Cairo… From Fela to Cesaria Evora, Aster Aweke, Remi Ongala – Africa Rocks!

3) 22:00 – 01:00 – Da Yut of 2Day & Disco Khru

22:00 – 00:00 50FunkYears! will then take us in another direction, to the hippie sixties, no less the “Black Power” seventies with DJ Andrea on dex dropping the sounds of Springbok Hits, Disco and the Nu Jazz Swing…
