PTA/STB: Tassenberg Legends Live Series in March 2009
Tassies is getting it’s shoulder firmly behind South African music with a major sponsorship in March as part of their Tassenberg Legends Live Series in Stellenbosch and Pretoria. Largely featuring popular Afrikaans musicians, the Tassenberg series showcases exclusive acoustic performances by celebrated South African musical artists. We can just imagine the rooiwyn baabelaases. Geniet julle!
Audiences can look forward to thrilling live stage acts from Van Coke Kartel on the 10th March at Aandklas in Stellenbosch, and a whole week of performances by renowned artists at the Dorpstraat Theatre for the annual Stellenbosch’ Woordfees. Gauteng crowds can also anticipate two superb musical acts from Ashtray Electric on the 19th March at Ting an’ Times, Pretoria and Karen Zoid on the 27th March at the Steak ‘n Ale in Pretoria.
Join in on the mind-blowing and high energy live show of Van Coke Kartel on the 10th of March at Aandklas, Stellenbosch. Van Coke Kartel will be toning it down a bit by performing an acoustic show with Francois van Coke on acoustic guitar and vocals, Wynand Myburgh playing an upright bass and Justin Kruger on drums and percussion. Going slow definitely does not mean slowing down for this South African band.
Cape Town based indie/rock band Ashtray Electric brings you a fresh new sound that is a tantalizing mixture of foot-tapping beats and a dynamic blend of musical style. Ashtray Electric, with its very unique look and sound, will bring something new and exciting to the Pretoria music scene. Be sure to catch this band on the 19th of March at Tings an’ Times in Pretoria.
Winner of the South African Music Award for Best Female Artist in 2008 and acclaimed songwriter, Karen Zoid will be performing an unplugged set on the 27th March at the Steak ‘n Ale in Pretoria. The award-winning national icon, will definitely entertain all, with her and truly South African style music and melodic guitar riffs.

Tassenberg Presents a Music Extravaganza at this year’s
Stellenbosch Woordfees:
6th – 14th March 2009
The spectacular annual Woordfees will be taking Stellenbosch by storm from the 6th to the 14th of March 2009. This unique festival is celebrating its 10th year and has much to offer, from entertaining music to ground-breaking drama and inspiring poetry to interesting exhibitions.
This year brings a superb musical line-up of South African artists at the Dorpstraat Theatre sponsored by Tassenberg, to delight audiences from all walks of life. Audiences can anticipate eight thrilling performances from the likes of Koos Kombuis, Valiant Swart, Anton Goosen, Lize Beekman, the Orange Stilettos, Danie Niehaus, Gert Vlok Nel and Riku Lättia at the chic and trendy Dorpstraat Theatre in Stellenbosch.
South African’s multitalented icon and legend, Koos Kombuis, will be kicking the stellar line-up into full swing on the 6th of March. With influences including Bob Dylan, Neil Young and George Harrison, audiences can look forward to Koos Kombuis’ quality lyrics and raw style that has made him the guru of Afrikaans rock music.
Stellenbosch based duo, the Orange Stilettos shall be performing on the 7th of March. The two rising musicians, Liezel Fourie (lead vocals) and Marise Landman (vocals and pianist), create a sound that is an eclectic combination of elements ranging from classical, jazz, cabaret to country and rock.
On the 9th of March, acclaimed singer and songwriter, Lize Beekman, shall be performing at the Theatre. Beekman, a much loved and respected artist, will entertain audiences with her enchanting voice and soothing sounds.
South African singer Riku Lätti will be performing on the 10th of March.
With a diverse musical range, from rock to pop and even hip hop, one may definitely look forward to Lätti’s enchanting melodies combined with wise and humorous lyrics.
Festival-goers will be in for a treat on the 11th of March, when South African legendary rock and folk singer Mr Valiant “Die Mystic Boer” Swart will be taking to the stage. The South African star and the 2008 South African Music Award winner for Best Afrikaans Traditional Music Album (with OIlie Viljoen), shall spellbound his audiences with his phenomenal and renowned lyrics.
“Sweef soos ‘n arend” singer, Danie Niehaus shall perform on the 12th of March an awe-inspiring show with his incredible vocal range.
Anton Goosen, who has been credited for writing the first Afrikaans rock song “Blommetjie gedenk aan my”, will be playing on the 13th March. Festival-goers will be entertained with by a legendary musician and songwriter who has been active in the music scene for the past 30 years.
The talented singer and poet Gert Vlok Nel will be playing on the 14th of March, for the final leg of the festival with his invigorating acoustic performance. One can look forward to Nel’s innovative style and delightful tunes.
