Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple – Meet @dcuthbert
Uhh, no that’s not @dcuthbert on the horse, however, that is one of Durban’s finest photographers Daniel Cuthbert’s photos. Did that make sense and were my apostrophes in the correct place? Moving on…Meet @dcuthbert, freaking talented photographer from Durbs you’all… his twisted tweets caught our ever-roaming eye – so he’s the 4th bastard agent in our Represent ♥’s Everyday Tweeple series. Next up… a lady in CT… follow us on @sisiwami to keep up. (PS: Daniel’s the dude in the desert)

How come you get to check out so many transit lounges all the time and why can’t we do it too?
I think it’s an internal need to be surrounded by so many badly dressed travelers with poor choices in luggage and footwear. It takes a strong person to do this, not for the faint.
Why Durban?
It has the best balance out of all the cities. Jozi is like a spotty angry teenager, full of spunk and often no substance. Cape Town is your 22 year-old who thinks they know it all but underneath, the soul is cold as hell. Durban is just, well, hundreds!
Why should we Rethink the Afrikaaner?
Since ’94, the emphasis has been on reconciliation and often this means forgetting about anything white-related. The true Afrikaner is a tribe in Southern Africa and part of our heritage, so we shouldn’t dismiss them as South Africans often do.
What top 6 soft music songs would you recommend to accompany a bottle of vodka?
The Cinematic Orchestra (any song by them)
Seasick Steve – Happy (to have a job)
Portishead – Chase the tear
Sigur Ros – Saeglopur
Jack Parow – Cooler as ekke
We sense a bit of anti-I-pod/I-pad/i-phone … whyyyy?
Don’t get me wrong, i’ve been a big apple fan for a very long time but recent events have seen them turn into the microsoft of this decade. The iPad is expensive for what it is, a fat iPhone, and yet it’s billed as the second coming. I think they’ve moved away from the “Think Different” approach no longer applies to Apple and it’s rather sad.
Tell us about what South African broadband providers SHOULD be doing?
Stop treating the SA public like retards. Telkom and other suppliers have done more damage to SA’s growth as a nation than any other country out there. The fact that the Internet is still a middle-class luxury in 2010 is insulting. Remove the pathetic caps and get people online and learning. R20 a month to have a 3gb cap, that way everyone in the nation can benefit from the net.
What’s a gleek? What are gobbles?
Middle-age kicking in, can’t remember when I mentioned gleek.. hahaha. Gobbles was a very good hacker back in the day who provided hours of fun and amusement to all.
We love your healthy cynicism – who besides Julius ‘the dipshit’ and ‘Steve the wanker’ gives you the creeps? Gordon Brown and most of the uk parliament. It’s shocking to see such a badly dressed bunch of old men, and women, control and decide on things they have so little clue about. Oh and that whackhead guy on radio, he’s rather special isn’t he?
What 5 things make you love living in Afreeka?
Sunshine, right now I’m sitting in London freezing.
Culture, believe it or not, Afreeka has so many different cultures that it makes living there amazing. Just go out and find something new.
Space, nothing like a 5000km road trip through this country to make you realise how good you have it.
Afreekan politics (where else in the world do you get anti-western hating men who love italian suits, swiss watches and german cars?)
A sense of change. Africa has gone through so much in recent centuries and things are on the up.
What is your dream camera? What affordable camera should any bona fide wannabe photographer absolutely pant after?
Linhof Large Format camera is something I’d give one of my bits to own. I reckon any wannabe photographer should get a camera that makes them smile. There is nothing better than picking up a tool that makes you feel like you are doing a good job. Get what you can afford, get a different coloured one, get one that makes people go “oh my god, what is that?”
Besides a naturist camp, what 3 other fantasy places/scenarios/scenes are you hoping to shoot one day? Hmmmm I have a thing for midgets (ok, small people) so that would make for one hell of a fashion shoot. A piss-take on the way American’s view Africa (nando’s is doing a good job with their current campaign) and something involving a large boat.
What is middle-aged to you and how does one look good in their middle age?
To me it’s about finally having that experience from screwing up in your twenties. Thankfully the body parts haven’t gone south, the hair is very much there and the salary is much better. Looking good is about finding a balance, I’ve finally accepted I’m crap at drinking and have given up.
Who are your top five bloody bastard agents?
So many..
-The Wife, she controls more than any ANCYL member could wish and want for
-Rogan Ward, best damn photojournalist in SA at the moment
-Desmond Tutu, Mandela got all the limelight but Desmond is a star. Would love to meet him one day.
-Jack Parow, that man made Afrikaans cool. How fucking amazing is that? Top class bloody bastard agent there!
-You, for keeping it real with this site 🙂
