SKANDAAAL in Beaufort West!
This Tuesday Special Assignment goes to Beaufort West in the Western Cape to further investigate Central Karoo municipal manager Truman Prince. Prince is the high ranking ANC official who was caught on camera allegedly soliciting young girls in a previous Special Assignment programme.
Prince is currently under investigation for his actions, although he claims that he was set up …
and was only making a “joke” when he spoke to the girls. We will reveal on Tuesday that he allegedly has a history of involvement with young girls and that he has allegedly been involved in several incidents of abuse and intimidation since he was caught on camera.
We will also show footage of an incident in Beaufort West last week where a Special Assignment cameraman had to flee to the police station in order to seek protection from a group of Prince supporters.
Prince refused to speak to Special Assignment. We did however manage to interview his best friend, senior municipal official David Maans, who said he had consulted with Prince before the interview.
Maans gave us details of Prince’s alleged past involvement with young girls and warned the Special Assignment team that our safety and that of other journalists could not be guaranteed. He said that the situation in the town was so volatile that someone might pull a knife or a gun on us.
Maans has called for mass action in support of Prince, but the town is divided into two camps. Residents have expressed fears that Beaufort West might be on the brink of a renewed cycle of violence and intimidation.
“The Day Prince Came to Town” is directed by Jacques Pauw and was filmed by Brian Uranovsky.
