SOUTH AFRICAN MUSIC AWARDS – call for Entries!
The organisers of the 12th Annual MTN SA Music Awards announced that entries for this premium event on the South African music calendar can be submitted between the 1st and the 30th November 2005.
Recordings released commercially in South Africa between January 1st and November 30th 2005 qualify for entry, unless otherwise specified in the rules.
Taking place on the 6th May 2006, the 12th Annual MTN SA Music Awards recognizes the accomplishments of those individuals and groups that play a vital role in asserting the South African recording industry’s position as the most dynamic, creative industry on the African continent.
Detailed rules for the event are available from the organising body, the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). Entry is open to any recording artist, producer or engineer who is a citizen or has been a legal resident in South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and Mozambique for the six months prior to entry to the competition.
Recording artists, producers or engineers who were born in South Africa, but now reside outside of Southern Africa may also enter. As part of the organisers’ commitment to recognising the growing achievements of South African recording artists on the global stage, international collaborations and productions are allowed to enter, provided the collaboration is predominantly by South African artist(s) or producer(s) and such artist(s) or producer(s) has/have star or equal billing on the release.
The call for entries is the first step in the roll-out for the 12th Annual MTN SA Music Awards. This year, entries to the competition will for the first time be submitted through a proprietary, online, digital entry system, specifically designed for the organisers by Prezence. Templated, easy-to-use electronic entry forms and instructions will be available on the MTN SA Music Awards website at SAMA AWARDS from 1 November 2005.
Entries will be completed and submitted electronically via unique, online accounts available on application, to RiSA. RiSA staff will capture entries into the electronic system on behalf of those who are unable to make use of this system. Entry forms and rules are still available from the MTN SA Music Awards website or from the RiSA offices.
Once it has been ensured that all entries are placed in the correct or most appropriate category (in terms of the rules of the awards ceremony), they are forwarded to the award’s panel of judges, who then adjudicate the entries. On completion of the adjudication process, the results are audited by an independent firm of auditors, and nominees in each of the categories are announced early in 2006.
In the adjudicated categories, specific criteria are set by which a judge must assess an entry. Unless otherwise specified, the overall judging criteria include – artistic ability, creativity, production and entertainment value. Four categories, Best-Selling Album of the Year, and the public vote categories (Most Popular Artist of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year) and Lifetime Achievement are not adjudicated. There are more than 30 categories open for entry in the 12th Annual MTN SA Music Awards.
Following on the ever increasing successes of previous years’ awards, an unprecedented number of entries are anticipated. To avoid the disappointment of missing the deadline, early entry is recommended. The organizers and sponsors wish to extend their very best wishes to all entrants and their earnest gratitude to the judges in anticipation of their commitment.
So if you are a recording artist, a producer or an engineer with an album commercially released during 2005 make sure you enter the 12th Annual MTN SA Music Awards.
