Soweto finally gets it’s own beach, sea and fun!
UPDATE
So after a long warm-up, it’s that time at last – the Spiced Gold Summer Beach party on the 5th and 6th November in Orlando, Soweto as the Power Park dam gets transformed into a beach environmet -check it out:
You know it’s going to be bikinis and beach sand when the sea comes to Soweto on the 5th and 6th of November. So grab the sun block and cancel the rest of your week…
end, because the Spiced Gold Summer Spice Beach Party is taking over Power Park Dam in Orlando, and the heat’s going to hit way past boiling point.
And it’s not just about the tonnes of beach sand, a range of taverns and activities like beach volleyball and soccer. The main attractions are going to be the medley of musicians who will be ensuring that the crowds get over 24 hours of music over the two-day party. These are the guys and gals who’ll be turning up the vibes, bringing on the moves and setting the sand flying as they blast out their eclectic range of pure African beats. The heat is on. The volume is up. Here’s who’s going to make sure that the party is official.
Kicking off on Saturday are some of Mzansi’s top live acts and most popular DJ’s. SAMA award winning trio Malaika are on the bill, livening things up with their universally funky Afro sound. Fellow SAMA winner, actress and R ‘n B sensation KB is also in the house, ensuring that things stay silken, smooth and sexy. Then there’s MXO, the socially conscious voice of contemporary hip hop. Expect him to rip it up and bring the house down.
Also appearing beach style is Sliq Angel, who soul-funk African inspired rhythms are sure to keep the party going. Kwaito sensations and platinum sellers Chippa and Mzambiya will keep the vibes hot as they deliver a power-packed performance. Then there’s Baphixile, the hip hop pioneers who will be keeping it real. The party will stay on a hip hop tip with Hidden Force, township narrators extraordinaire whose live act is nothing short of awesome.
Rounding things off on the live side are Chomee, the young gal rapper with a twist in the tongue, Donald Duck the multi-talented producer who defies categorization and Psyfo, another young rapper with a big future.
Taking the party from the live to vinyl are some seriously fine DJs. DJ Fresh is on the wheels of steel, bringing his Big Dawg sound to the Soweto beach. Also representing YFM is DJ Monde – house master and hip shaker deluxe. Playing a banging set will be Metro FM’s DJ Fistaz, a music supremo whose mixes have won him legions of fans. Rounding things off is Jozi FM’s DJ Mgedeza, taking the house vibe all the way home.
Sunday the 6th starts on a more laidback tip with internationally acclaimed jazz legend Hugh Masekela playing the sounds that have made him much loved and famous. Also appearing will be Masekela collaborator Tsepo Tshola. Expect a gospel inspired, African-rooted set from the Village Pope. The bill also features Jabu Khanyile and Bayete, whose inspiring mbaqanga sounds are still as fresh today as they were when the band started in the 80s. Sylvester Mazinyane is the man who makes pianos come to life. He’ll be bringing a jazz vibe to the ivories as he takes the stage.
Jazz maestro Themba Mkhize is the man whose contemporary feel is inspired by music from the 70s and 80s – expect a set that’s wrapped in nostalgia yet wonderfully up to date. Then there’s Judith Sephuma, whose sultry voice is matched by her uniquely flavoured jazz approach. She’s a true sensation with awesome talent. Swazi Dlamini is another SAMA winner who has shone since leaving the gospel group Joyous Celebration. She’s got a golden voice – enjoy. Rounding it all off is Kaya FM DJ Kenny Nkwashu who, along with Andrew Tshaka from Jozi FM, is going to keep the vibes going long into the night.
So, besides the awesome setting and good summer vibes, the Spiced Gold Summer Spice Beach Party is going to be jamming to a line-up that’s beyond compare. Dare you miss out?
