Pink coming to SA!
At last, one of our favourite pop artists Pink is on her way to perform in South Africa – wish she was playing at Live Earth. Sorry Durbanites it’s only Jozi, Sun City and CT for now. It’s going to be a fabulous Spring. We can’t wait. Yay!!! Pink “I’m not Dead Tour” Proudly presented by Sony Ericsson and 5fm in association with MTN, PINK’s first ever SA tour, kicks off at the Sun City Superbowl on the 8th, before heading to the Coca Cola Dome in Joburg on the 9th, and finally the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town, on the 11th of September 2007. The multi-Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum selling PINK, recently shattered Australian songbird, Kylie Minogue’s home record as the female artist to sell the most concert tickets in an Australian arena tour. She played 36 sell out concerts in Australia/NZ gigs to more than 310,000 fans, breaking 3 building attendance records, and beating Minogue’s previous record of 20 concerts to 215,000 fans during her 2006 Showgirl Homecoming Tour. PINK and her band are set to put on a powerful, hit-packed show with all her signature brash and in-your-face flare, whipped up with her unique blend of soulful funk punk-pop rock and roll! “To have such a distinguished musical influence associated with Sony Ericsson’s music proposition through our Walkman® mobile phone range will further strengthen our commitment and drive on music for us and our partner, MTN”, said Sonja Shear, Head of Marketing for Sony Ericsson, Southern Africa. Shear continued, “Our decision to sponsor Pink’s ‘I’m Not Dead’ Tour, allows us the opportunity to bring the best in music entertainment to South Africa. We will be releasing our rose red W660i handset in addition to our black and orange W880i, and funky pink Z310i clamshell handset exclusively through MTN.” 5FM Station Manager Helen Graham said “Pink is the archetypal 5FM artist – widely popular but with an edge that has kept her interesting longer than many of her contemporaries in the pop genre. We’re very excited to bring her live show to our listeners, who have kept her recorded work in our charts for many years now”. Alastair Roper Sports and Promotions Executive for Sun International, has this to add, ”It’s an honour to welcome PINK to Sun City as she joins the list of Grammy award winning artists that have performed in the world renowned Sun City Superbowl.” PINK has become one of the most enigmatic pop stars around, after gaining prominence in 2000, with her first record, Can’t Take Me Home, which boasted worldwide sales of over 4 million copies. PINK then collaborated with Christina...
Kelis was in the Green House!
What an awesome night at Joburg’s best new venue, the temporary Dome at Constitution Hill or “ConHill” as we fondly call it. Represent’s home is just next door – so we could hear the bands warming up in the afternoon and see the green glow as the evening approached – it was to be a night that would be hard to forget. See the photies here. The gorgeous architectural lines of the urban setting were junglefied and turned to green as Heineken made their mark as the first event in the awesome dome. At first the crowd was reluctant to go inside to dance to Lady Leah – everyone was cosy in the plush outside bar and lounge area soaking up the magnificent urban panorama. Sexy aluminium (we think) Heineken bottles clinked as old friends reunited – it was certainly the hip crowd of Jozi with everybody who’s somebody snacking on the abundant food on offer. We’re not talking about two-bit celebs, leaches or wannabes, we’re talking about the creme de la artists, comedians, musicians, film makers, creatives, journalists, event organisers, PR peeps, paparazzi, IT heads… the place to be! Certainly an inspiring diverse and happening crowd. The Hillbrow tower watched over us as revellers bopped to the poppy electro tunes of Tamara Dey and her band Flash Republic, eagerly waiting for the suprise performer. It was none other than Kelis who’s performance blew us away and had the crowds chanting for more. She picked us up, shook us around a bit and left us dazzled by not only her gold attire but her fantastic talent and stage presence. It was one of those parties that ended in the inevitable dancing circles to the sounds of our old favourite DJ Monde – good to see him back on the decks – it’s been a while! Even Editorista gave a bash at some tsipa’ring but her twalatsa stole the show. Thing is, it’s been a long time since we’ve been to an event that had us excited, the mystery around the international act had a “Lucky Strike” underground feel to it and the buzz of the crowds was electric. Congrats to Sam, Melanie, Lebo and the rest of the team from Speakers Corner for yet another outstanding event. Big Ups to Heineken. You know you guys know what’s going on. We can’t wait for the next one. Hope you keen suprising us – that was your...
Femi Kuti is in the country
Maybe we’re still skittish from the Snoop debacle where the brother never showed up – maybe we just like the speed of internet as a medium – anyway we thought we’d share some photo’s to show you that the legend is indeed here. A warmly wrapped Femi Kuti attended a press conference in Parktown today along with Kinobe, one of Uganda’s top artists, Brad from the Bassline and Steven Sack, Joburg city’s director of arts, culture and heritage services. We couldn’t stay for long but heard Femi being drilled about Nigerian politics and the recent elections – his answer was “there was no election in Nigeria..” Damn – wish we could have heard more. Respec’! The man is an incredible musician and we hope that all of us African’s will be in Newtown tomorrow night to celebrate the mother of all continents. It’s going to be interesting 🙂 DRESS WARMLY!!! Represent! ...
Represent Recommends: PARTY PEOPLE
Get ready for your Monthly fix with the soulful sounds of Khenzero and his crew. This Saturday at Roka “Party People” features Khethi – some of you may recognise her from the cocacola colab album (2004?) where she sings the song “Be with Me” alongside 340ml and Jahseed. Khethi’s voice is amazing and reminds us of ZapMama’s and a little of Amel Larrieux (one of Editorista’s favourite vocalists who is about to release her new album) and we’re gonna go catch her for sure. See Khethi’s myspace here. There’s also “DJ Smokey B” from the UK on the decks… maybe a little Garage music geezer?
