We were honoured to be asked to submit our votes for the nominees for this year’s Best African Act at the MTV awards in Munich in November and are delighted to see HHP representin’ for SA as well as Samini from Ghana and D’banj from Nigeria…. Jua Cali and Chameleone are new artists to us, we’ll just have to check them out on YouTube. Represent wishes Jabba all the best and we’re holding thumbs that you take it away, you certainly deserve it HHP! We’re proud of you mfo’ and believe that you will scoop it. It’s the classic scenario with so many of our brilliant SA talents – Marcus Wyatt, JustJinger, Tumi, Siya Makuzeni, Soweto Gospel Choir and even T-Boz (yes… Mr P!) and JC (yes the waistcoat wearing white Zulu). So often they spend more time in Europe playing to adoring foreign fans that we wonder if they’ve immigrated. There’s something sad about the fact that our stars are lapped up overseas yet often play to half-full halls here at home with super chipile door prices that can’t make them any money – but… like a lot of things… we’re used to it. Details below. It’s been three years since FRESHLYGROUND last released a studio album. Since then this Cape Town based seven-piece has become nothing short of a popular music sensation, selling 250 000 copies of 2004’s ‘Nomvula’, earning an MTV Europe Music Award, racking up huge radio airplay and performing live before a massive number of people. The band has toured extensively over the last two years across Southern Africa and Europe, and they have plans to tackle Australia and the US over the next couple of years. Moshers, heavy metal fans and rockers, get to the NIGHTFALL FESTIVAL next week as the Pretoria Showgrounds succumbs to a metal invasion in a one day super-moshfest as BLIND GUARDIAN from Germany tear the place apart! whaaaaaaaaaaaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Blind Guardian, Germany’s finest, is coming to South Africa as part of their world tour. 10 of SA’s finest will be performing alongside these Metal pioneers. This will all be taking place at the Tswhane Events Centre (Pretoria Showgrounds) on the 13th October 2007. So dust off your old-school leathers and studs and come and enjoy this journey into the styles of true old-school metal and rock. Some of the local bands who will be performing alongside Blind Guardian will be: Agro, Ancient Influence, Chromium, Contrast The Water, Deity’s Muse, L.A.
