Shakira, Corinne, Glenn Lewis and Johnny Gill

If we hear that “Hips don’t Lie” song one more time… we may just vomay….Shakira sounds like she’s on the loo… that thick voice thing does nothing for us. But apparently the rest of the world loves the hit as we see it soaring up the charts… we think it’s due to the awesome vocals of Wyclef Jean. Thoughts please Representers? BUT!!!! HAVE YOU… BOUGHT YOUR CORINNE BAILEY RAE CD????? My My My as Johnny Gill said – this has to be the sweetest most soulful and awesome performer we have heard since… well probably Norah Jones. If you’re into chillax souled out stuff, it’s a must-have – GET IT!!!! We love her voice, her style, her lyrics… See Corinne’s site here. And ladies, what more super-fine way to spend National Women’s day than to hear that sensual love-making voice of Johnny Gill taking you back to high school sweathearts…. Sisters of the 90’s you know what I’m talking about. Catch him live on his two-city tour. 8 August – Women’s day – Johannesburg – The Dome From R150 – R300 5 August – Durban – Westridge Park Tennis Stadium From R140 – R230 GLENN LEWIS with two NN’s – and that’s not our Glen from Metro FM – it’s the artist behind the hit “Don’t you forget it” – he’s coming out with MONIFAH to perform in Midrand and Bloem.. odd choices… Why is everyone skipping CT? KANYE WEST – We greet first here “at home” in Africa

Boring. That’s the best way we can describe our experience of Kanye… if it wasn’t for our two friends that were Bopping away crazily and who got us a little energised we would have left early. First things first – Kanye West was a complete show. A hot show. But he was a cliche of all things “African American visiting the Motherland”, milking every possible cheesy outlet to remind us that he … is so not from here. The only thing he didn’t go into too much detail about was his religious beliefs and thanking God. Otherwise he ticked all the boxes, speaking lots about his achievements and how great he is – confirming his arrogant and self-involved reputation. .. You may think we’re being a little harsh, that’s because he annoyed us for two main reasons… 1. He never said Hello to us. 2. He went on and on about “coming home.” Cliched. If he really was from Africa, he would know that the most important thing you do when you arrive at a place is to GREET everyone around you. Because he never greeted us, he never quite clicked with us. We weren’t suprised to hear the crowds boo-ing him when he did the whole “I’m home – thank you for making my dream come true.” But to give him a break, it was great to hear Touch the Sky, GoldDigger and other hits… ALso liked his original twist using classical musicians to back him up. Gotta give it to the brother, his show was tight. But lacking in soul and spirit. Next time brother, please MOVE us. ***************************************************** Have you got your Kanye West tickets yet? Best you hurry! Book at Computicket! Recently named in Time Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world, Kanye West has had significant successes in South Africa with chart breakers on 5fm, Metro FM and Goodhope FM. While his early work suggested greatness, it was on Jay-Z’s now-classic The Blueprint that West first achieved it in a major way. Drawing from the Jackson 5 (“Izzzo (H.O.V.A)), the Doors (“Takeover”) and the Temptations’ David Ruffin (“Never Change”), West created the soulful yet gritty sound behind Jay’s best tracks that his imitators are still trying to copy today. But like any true original, West was in a league of his owncreating the future of hip-hop as he dug back in time with his unique samples to connect the past with the present in a brand new way. Before long, West was being hailed as the future of hip-hop. In the wake of his breakout success, West earned a whopping,...

Help Bring Mariah Carey to South Africa!

Help Bring Mariah Carey to South Africa!

Wouldn’t it be great if we supported our local artists as much as we support international ones! Just picture it: “Help bring Wonderboom to Hotazel”, “Help Bring PitchBlack back” And so on. In the second of our series of SA-based sites that petition international artists to visit SA, the focus falls to… MARIAH! *To see the first Represent fanclub article featuring the U2 fan… club click here.* We must admit, we loved her in the 90’s *blush*, but we’ve kind of outgrown her. Clearly that’s just us. Appears that the Mariah fan site has all kinds of juicy goodies on SA fans – like Mariah fan get togethers…. see above photo of some fans singing her songs Karoke style! 🙂 They also have an article on one of the “1st South African fans to meet or see Mariah Carey up close”, a woman called Lynette who shares her experience online with all the fans: You will never guess what – I SAW MARIAH !!!!!!!!!!!!! I subscribe to the “Mariah Live” mailing list and got a chance to be in her new music video “Bringin’ on the heartbreak” ! The video is shot as part of a rock concert, so we got to be fans in the crowd at her concert for the video! And it was free. I was so anxious with anticipation – the thought of just getting to see in person was overwhelming me. I couldn’t believe that I was going to get this chance. So a friend of mine and I got there at 5:30pm and we waited outside for 2 hours before we went inside, then waited again till eventually she came out. She was stunning. She just had to wave and the crowd went mad. I’ll never forget that feeling when I got my first glimpse of her. The crowd went wild and the screams were deafening. It was so exciting – I was jumping up and down 🙂 It was like I was the only one in the auditorium and no one was watching me going crazy 🙂 I couldn’t take my eyes off her. We were like 12 rows from the front, then there was a section for the cameras and then the stage. I was so excited that I was a mere 15 meters from Mariah! Then she was being interviewed by different tv channels and then came on stage and said she’s gonna change for the video shoot and will be back. We waited so long while the crew setup the lighting and cameras. There is such a lot of work involved in making the video. And so on. Click...
