Party People in Mozi, Jozi and CT
We told you they were gonna keep you rocking all year. DJ Khenzero takes his wicked event Party People and spreads the love to Maputo, Cape Town and Jozi this month. Wish we were there! This March Party People moves to Mozambique and without further ado Dj Kenzhero brings to you non other than Party People’s first song Bird Fifi along with the illustrious Simba and the Rocats. On the moonlit night of the 21st Dj Kenzhero will be bringing down the roof of a small place in the heart of Maputo called Gil Vicente. Doors will open at 10:00pm and a smooth R60, 00 get you through them. This one promises to be a tropical retreat that no-one should miss out on. THEN… Just a short week after coming back from a sun kissed long weekend in Mozambique, Party People moves on down to the mother city to host the third Party of its kind to reach this corner of South Africa. Friday the 28th of March 2008 will have residents of Zula Bar, situated on the long stretch of Long Street, skankin down to the smooth reggae sounds of Teba and his band, and of course to compliment the mood of the night Dj Kenzhero will do what he does best and that is to play his way through. AND FINALLY The very next day Dj Kenzhero presents another overwhelming Jo’burg line up. Starting off with a some what reminiscent sound of the night before, Zimbabwean born reggae musician, Rantoboko will open the platform for Brooklyn based rapper Wordsworth at Party Peoples first home, Roka. Indeed a balanced combination of the two acclaimed artists is something definitely worth seeing. R80, 00 presale, R100, 00 at the door. For presale tickets call Candace Allan at 072 314...

One good thing about music…
There’s only one place to be on February 9th and that’s at JHBLive’s “Hit Me With Music” bash at Carfax celebrating the legendary Bob, Reggae and the Irie life in generaal. Bob Marley, like many fabulous talented groovy party people we know, is an Aquarian born in February, the 8th to be exact, make sure you celebrate Bob and all that he taught us in true Ragga style. Represent! Hit Me With Music is back after a hugely successful show in 2007. It’s a tribute to Bob Marley – a man whose music and lyrics have given hope and inspiration to millions of people around the globe. Marley represents an ideology of freedom, his work touching on both personal liberation and liberation of the African mind and spirit. His lyrics have given hope and inspiration to many. In his spirit, JHBLive introduces the Hit Me With Music Party 2008. This year’s event has a 70’s African Revival theme. The main floor will host live acts, which will stage a tribute to the music of Bob Marley. The Carfax outside area will be transformed into a 70’s-style African shebeen, accompanied by a small market, complete with a selection of mouth-watering West African and Ethiopian cuisine. For those with harder tastes, there will be a ragga-style drum ‘n bass floor to keep your feet grooving all night long. Come join us for a night of inspiration, perspiration and jubilation! Leap Year is round the corner
I don’t know if ladies proposing to their men makes Leap Year special enough for me. Most of the ladies I know would do it on anyday ’cause they’re liberated, free and just nje. Although if you do go for it girls, as lore aka Wikipedia tells us, “Supposedly (but disputed), in a 1288 law by Queen Margaret of Scotland (then age five and living in Norway), fines were levied if the proposal was refused by the man; compensation ranged from a kiss to £1 to a silk gown, in order to soften the blow.” So make sure if you do it and he says no he gets you a sexy Silk some’ing some’ing. Could be a great way just to get spoilt… even us liberated gals need some spoiling! Leap Year for me is special for it’s EXTRA day that it gives us – just think about how fast 2007 flew by – not to mention the whiplash I am getting this January. It also means a WHOLE lot more birthday parties for those peeps who only get to get down once every four years. Good news is the LEAP YEAR parties in JOZI are starting to pour in… First up is an Electric Workshop Reunion Party hosted by Euphonic and the SoulCandi crew – click on the flyer for a taste, and watch this space for...
