SERIOUSLY FUNNY is Darren Maule’s brand new comedy show!
For a limited season only – Darren Maule will be at Mardi Gras, Carnival City, Johannesburg with his multi-media show, SERIOUSLY FUNNY from Friday 25 October until 29 November 2013. For the past nineteen years, Darren’s versatility as a mime, trained theatrical actor and stand-up comedian has made him a name which, somewhere along the line, we remember. He was “that” guy on Survivor SA Santa Carolina or perhaps you remember his great repartee with co-host Pabi Moloi on PlayTV, his sharp cutting wit on “Out the Box” and “Last Say on Sunday” or maybe you remember Darren as the dark horse/comic relief in the multi-award winning “Hard Copy” TV drama series. However you remember him, SERIOUSLY FUNNY combines Darren’s skills as a comedian, actor and physical performer to tell the story – as only Darren can – of all his ups and downs, highs and lows, for better or for worse and to show that there is always, always space for comedy in life. Darren uses his story-telling ability to demonstrate how absolutely anything can be funny. For the first time he will tell of his sometimes sordid, certainly colourful and definitely not boring life. He takes you through the burgeoning days of comedy when stand-up comics really were the rock stars of the entertainment industry and when nobody behaved more like a rock star than Darren Maule! He survived his lifestyle of sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll and has emerged stronger, better and funnier and he just keeps achieving. Darren relocated to Durban two years ago and has continued growing as a performer and can now boast an even larger following… as a breakfast radio show host. To this day people stop Darren and ask if he is the guy from “White Wedding”. Quite an accolade really seeing as he only had 2 minutes of screen time. He also had a cameo appearance in “District 9” which nobody will remember – his scene was cut! It is brave. It is funny. It is his story told for the first time by him. SERIOUSLY FUNNY is Darren Maule’s multi-media comedy show and is an experience for the whole family. Tickets are R100.00 each and available at the door of Mardi Gras, Carnival City on the night of each performance. Box Office opens at 18h00 before each performance. Performance schedule: ·Friday 25 October 2013 @ 20h00 – Media Review night. ·Friday 1 November 2013 @ 20h00 ·Friday 15 November 2013 @ 20h00 ·Friday 29 November 2013 @...
Survivor SA – Contestants announced!
It’s starting next week Wed – start placing your bets!!! The secret is out! M-Net has revealed the names of the 16 contestants who will be experiencing hell in paradise in Survivor South Africa: Malaysia. These 16 headstrong Survivors were whisked off to an island in the South China Sea in May this year where they had to do whatever was necessary to endure the harsh elements and outsmart their tribe mates. The current Survivor series was shot over a period of 27 days and starts on M-Net on Wednesday, August 22 at 20:00. There will also be a repeat on M-Net Series on Fridays at 22:00. In episode 1, food and fire are high on the Survivors’ priority list right from the start, but they soon find out that the lack of resources is but one of many problems on their deserted island. The contestants come from different walks of life and these larger than life personalities are bound to clash. Whose torch will be extinguished at tribal council? Will the strongest or weakest Survivors go home first? And what will keep them in the game: physical strength or psychological mind games? Of course, it all depends on the dynamics of the tribe and the only certainty is that no-one is to be trusted. Meet the Survivors: Amanda Hoosen Age: 29 Star sign:Libra Weltevreden Park, Johannesburg Occupation: Head of Internal Audit Background: This confident, bubbly high-flier studied accounting in the USA and lived there for nine years. She has travelled the world, but these days she manages the internal audit team at a large mining company. In her spare time, she enjoys Bikram Yoga (yoga in a heated room). She has also had dance training since the age of five and does ballet, tap, modern and jazz. Why she could survive in Malaysia: Amanda has already conquered the corporate world – what can stop her now? She won’t compromise her personality to save face, but best of all, she can talk her way in and out of any situation. Describes herself as .. “… quite loud, a great debater who thrives on intellectually stimulating conversation”. Angela Beck Age: 23 16/11/1983 Star sign: Scorpio Lives in: Krugersdorp Occupation: Model Coach Background: Angela runs four of her own businesses and trains aspiring models. She has won over fifty beauty pageant titles herself, including Miss Tourism International 2003 – held in Malaysia. Why she could survive in Malaysia: She may be young, sweet and pretty, but don’t underestimate her! She’s also super-motivated, goal-oriented and highly ambitious and always has her ear to the ground. Describes herself as… “strong-willed and determined. I keep myself motivated and have...
Represent WTF: Reality TV Rant – Kidneys???
Did you watch Fear Factor this week? WTF??? It was absolutely frightening. Three contestants had to lie half-naked in a hole covered in huge scorpions that crawled all over them, stung them and clawed their bodies. Only one of the contestants – a guy – managed to remain in place for 2.5 minutes, the other two women screamed blood curdling murder and had to be removed from the pit as they got more and more hysterical. They freaked out completely! It seemed that the organisers had to ‘introduce’ another task to give the women another chance at winning – but more than likely to placate them. With those noomphie facial expressions and sarcastic tones, they were p-d off of note. So would I be. Damn those things were scary. Then today I read about a Dutch reality TV show that has just been given the green light to go on air where “a terminally ill woman is to select one of three contestants to receive her kidneys when she dies” read more in the UK Guardian here. WTF??? One has to ask the question – does Reality TV have a sell-by-date – will EVERYONE bore of it like one does with anything they have too much of? What about the moral grounds of Reality TV – I find it an extremely morbid notion that a nation could be captured by a dying woman making a choice about who will save her. Especially if you’re someone else in her position that doesn’t have that choice. Or are we being too petty? Just how far can we go? The Dutch have always been renowned for their liberalism, particularly social, but what kind of a society gets it’s kicks out of someone else’s pain and debilitating medical condition. Will viewers find entertainment in the show or is it a purely voyeuristic attraction – letting someone else’s sad life make you feel better about yourself? On a more cheerful note, a little birdie tells us the filming of Survivor 2 on an island off Malaysia is nearly over – we’re looking forward to round two. We’re such a unique (some would say screwed up) society that watching us interact is high entertainment! We’re sure we’ll soon meet the contestants. And on a brighter than bright (lol) note there’s the Surf Fashion Your Future program that features one of Represent’s good friends – John Sithole – you will remember we supported John when he was starting out a few years back with our “Lotto Jeans” project which had great results (Sharpile to all of you again!). Apparently it’s a wannabe Project Runway, that features a number of young SA fashion designers...
Vanessa is our first Survivor – You go girl!
Exciting, nail-biting, neck on neck, riveting – what more can we say? Big ups to Mnet for a job well done – we can’t wait for the next installment. To Vanessa Marawa, the deep-voiced one, well done babe, it’s a win for women and black women both in SA and the world over – nice one! Jacinda – jammer meisie- jy was baie slim en het goed gespeel maar jy kon meer vriende gemaak het. And as for th… at make-up – you look much better tanned and fresh. We’re delighted with the results and are so glad we hung in for the action – Mzi bro, you know we love you – but that was a weird last grasp at straws bru and what we believe sealed your fate. You will surely have a colourful life post this experience and we wish all the contestants the best. Thanks for the entertainment. ================================ What an awesome twist in the penultimate episode of Survivor finally giving the viewers some nail-biting moments – Gareth is out and two of our favourites Vanessa and Mzi are back in… we love it. Come on Representers, place your bets. Who is it going to be? Here’s our bet: In an ideal world our favourite sexy fisher man would get the bucks: 1. Mzi 2. Jacinda 3. Zayn 4. Vanessa But we also have a funny feeling there may be a female winner – so we’re also watching Jacinda and Vanessa closely. So next week is the BIG ONE – we wish all the contestants good luck and we count down the days till SUNDAY when all will be revealed. Two of our biggest supporters L-Boogie and Noxyrsox (Sharpile girls!) give us their take on this weeks episode and for anyone that missed it, see the press release from Mnet below. L-Boogie How delicious was the penultimate episode of Survivor? Not only are Mzi and Vanessa back in the game, they are now also calling all the shots at Burba. The show started with Lezel making her way to Dead Man’s Island to join Mzi, Vanessa and BBrigitte. Only they were not in the mood to play best chums with her; and gave her one of the coldest receptions ever given to anyone on a reality show. Yummy. Better still and proving that what goes around comes around; Lezel blew her chances of returning to Burba when she was the first person to fall in a challenger that involved standing narrow poles. Mzi and Vanessa stood the test; and shocked the hell out of Zayn, Gareth and Jacinda when they re-joined them for immunity challenged....
Are you counting down the days to SA’s Survivor?
It’s MARVELLOUS of M-NET to be BLOGGING the filming of Survivor! You can read all about the “Makings of” before the show even breaks on TV from their Survivor BLOG “Mixed Blessings” wriiten with lots of soul and a big spoonful of wit from journo Greg Bowes… and DJ… and Boy about Jozi town. W…e were recently invited to a creative awards event in deep Braamies…. We arrive eagerly in the deserted carpark with a young man unpacking his boot… one Greg Bowes if we recognised him correctly, who thankfully informed us that we were about 2 hours too EARLY….That was surely a first for us. Anyway, its well worth a read and a laugh, read about Greg and the Making of SA SURVIVOR by clicking right here. From the Makers: “Greg has been strategically placed amongst the spiders and foliage to report back on those interesting day-to-day things that the camera often misses. Read all about Greg’s island adventure and what it’s like to be a writer in the jungle in the middle of Survivor… “ A taste…from Greg: “Under grey skies we headed out to the quaint, colourful and devoutly religious island of San Miguel, where Survivor SA sets off – with a real bang, believe me. As proceedings were about to kick off – and as if on cue from the great director high in the sky – the heavens opened& This was just the first of a few surprising and unscripted developments during a frenetic day. But while it’s going to make for magnetic and undoubtedly magic viewing, I have to admit that my eyeline was attracted by other sights: most notably the incredibly cute redheaded Swedish make-up girl& Now that’s what I call entertainment&” Greg Pic from the Mixed Blessings blog. ***************************************************** Do you have a friend that has suddenly become ‘unavailable’ for a month? Are they great at outdoors? Do they need a million bucks (don’t we all.) If you answered YES to all three of the above questions, they could be one of the 14 lucky or not so lucky Survivor Panama contestants. They flew out last night for a month – the show airs in September – this is going to be a tough one to keep under wraps. But we love the thought that September aka Spring is not that far away…. Here’s the scoop: Survivor South Africa has captured the imagination of the country, with over 18 000 people submitting entry forms in the hope of getting a shot at the R1 000 000 prize up for grabs. Only 14 contestants made the grade, after taxing biokinetical and psychological...
