During their 7 year live touring and recording career, this triple platinum selling band released 4 studio albums and 2 Best Of compilations, had 5 top 10 hit singles, won 3 South African Music Awards, toured locally and internationally extensively and explosively and shared the stage with the likes of INXS, The Beastie Boys, Lenny Kravitz, The Cult, Smashing Pumpkins, Hothouse Flowers, Goo Goo Dolls and The Offspring. In 2001 the band separated to pursue independent careers.  Five years later they have reunited to resume their status as a world class alternative rock band with a spectacular live act, epitomizing highly energized, bone crunching alternative rock & roll.

MTV Alert cropped up as a possible return performance in September 2006, and the Nude Girls couldn’t resist, playing the show with an amazing new vigour, and reminding them how worth while the effort to ‘Rise Again’ is… After two shows at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire late last year to support the release of a UK version of their ‘Best Of’ album, the Springbok Nude Girls are rising again! Their 5th studio album ‘Peace Breaker’ is set for release this month!

THE PARLOTONES
The Parlotones live act, the basis of any musician’s popularity, embraces the concept of performance and the guys fill the stage. Audiences watching The Parlotones are swept up in a whirlwind of energy and rock orchestrated by front man Kahn Morbee, Glenn Hodgson (bass, piano, backing vocals), Paul Hodgson (guitar) and Neil Pauw (Drums).

Not adverse to experimentation, the band merges innovative and authentic ideas into a comprehensive sound, which lends itself to mammoth live performances, the likes of which audiences have rarely seen.
During 2006, The Parlotones have garnered a number of noteworthy accolades, the most recent of which is signing a worldwide license deal with the international division of Universal Music.
The deal was set in motion by the single ‘Beautiful’ being used in the new Fuji Film advert for Ireland. Intense interest in the band from a top UK promoter, led to a promotional tour of the UK, and while on the tour, signed with the international artist agency The Agency Group Limited (Foo Fighters, The White Stripes, My Chemical Romance and many more).

Their debut full-length album, Radiocontrolledrobot, won a SAMA last year for “Best Rock Album”, delivered no less then 5 Top20 singles and is currently scheduled for release around the world. They have performed alongside international rock greats at last years Coca Colab Massive Mix concerts, opened for super group Live on their Black Mountain White Light tour, and are returning to Europe this month with their 1st headline tour spanning UK, Ireland and France.

EVOLVER
The band takes an old style of music, and mixes it up with something new, combining classic with funk, and emerging with a truly unique sound. Made up of four talented musicians, Peter Pote (vocals/guitar), Sean Murphy (keyboards/Backup vocals), Miguel Loureiro, (drums) and James Cohen (bass), Evolver is reminiscent of 70s cool a sound that is all funk rock and blues fusion. Evolver hit the SA music circuit 4 years ago, with their breakout single, ‘Lets Get Naked’, being released by 5FM on the Hi5 at 5, where it reached No.5, before going on to reach the No.16 spot on the Coca-Cola Top40. ‘Closer to You’, was then released in early 2005 on various stations, and the next single, ‘Keep on Moving’, catapulted to the top, hitting No.1 on 5FMs Hi5 at 5. The band has since completed eight national tours, and released their full-length album ‘Get Up’ last year. The singles “Get Up” and “Magician” were playlisted on stations across the country, and they recorded the track “Deadlines” for the SA drama series Snitch.

CASSETTE
Even though it is a cliché to say that Cassette exploded onto the scene, there is no other way to describe exactly what they did. From the release of their first single, Cassette (Jon Savage on lead vocals, Jane Breetzke on keyboards, Nathan Waywell on bass, Marc Bentel on guitar and Andrew Wessels on drums) literally blew up.

Their first single, “Your Star”, was released independently in December 2005 and shot to number 1 on the SA charts.  London’s radio station, XFM, picked up “Your Star” and voluntarily entered the song into a national unsigned battle of the bands. “Your Star” won the competition and was then picked up by campus stations around Europe and in the US. When “Welcome Back To Earth”, Cassette’s debut album hit the shelves in March 2006, the single “Love With The Light On” went to No. 1 on 5FM’s Hi5 Chart.

The band is spellbinding – their moves are reminiscent of the truly great rockers and, with their distinctive retro style, they bring a fresh exciting energy to the international music industry.

J
He’s only been in South Africa a year and he has already signed record, publishing and management deals, written a bunch of honest autobiographical songs and then convinced respected international producer Anders Kallmark (Natalie Imbruglia, Kylie Minogue, Hayley Westerna, Liberty X and Holly Vallance) to fly out to South Africa and record his debut album for next to nothing!

J writes honest pop songs, and then turns them into sprawling Indie masterpieces. He is a prolific songwriter penning songs for himself and for his peers in the industry.

Not only did he write all the songs on his debut album, but he played nearly all of the instru¬ments on it and arranged the strings too. He started playing piano when he was four, guitar by the age of five, and in High School, was already recording his own songs on a double tape deck and then uploaded them onto his website. The “dodgy little website” as J now calls it came to the attention of a UK management company who invited J to travel to London to write songs for them. His experience of writing for “boy bands” and management’s attempts to push J into a boy band direction meant that he returned to Walvis Bay. Back in South Africa, J was asked who in an ideal world he would like to produce his debut album… and hence Anders Kallmark!

THE DIRTY SKIRTS
Featured as upcoming talent in Levis Young Guns, they’ve now performed on every main stage of South Africa’s festival circuit, including Oppikopi, Cell C Sounds of the City, Splashy Fen, Rocking the Daisies, Robertson Rocks, and were voted as the headlining act at the MTV Alert gig.

The Dirty Skirts (Jeremy De Tolly on lead vocals, guitar and synth; David Moffatt on guitar; Maurice Paliaga on Bass and Mark De Menezes on drums) released their debut EP independently in 2005, which stormed various South African charts with singles “Feeling the Pressure” and “Set me Alight” both reaching number 1 on regional stations.

Their debut full length album, On a Stellar Bender, was released last month, and will see them embarking on an album launch tour with an international leg including London and New York City en route to perform at the SXSW festival in Texas. The album is a musical landscape sparkles with riffs, hooks and musical diversions, and is an album that encourages its listeners to abandon any inhibitions and celebrate living in the moment, but it won’t abandon them when the inevitable post-bender contemplative remorse sets in.

LOVE JONES
The band is a dynamic fusion of the most appealing elements of rock ‘n roll and popular music – raw power prettied up with the glossy overtones of accessible pop. Love Jones was formed in early 2005, and found themselves rocking up a storm on a cold night at Splashy Fen – their first ever performance.

After their second major performance at the Mr Price Pro, and 4 months of composing, gigging and recording their debut album, an album that would thrill local fans and enable the band to compete on an international level, their self-titled album was released, with its first single “Kicks” invading the airwaves countrywide, with its music video is on the highest rotation on MK89. With Esjay Jones on vocals & guitar, Jason Jones on guitar, Steve Jones on bass guitar and Isaac Jones on drums, their performances at Oppikoppi, Aardklop and the Levi’s Rage for the Revolution Concert have proved they are indeed worth all the hype!

TAXI VIOLENCE
Live on stage – Taxi Violence is explosive. Their sheer energy driving any up-for it crowd into a frenzy. Since their inception, a jam session at a military base in 2004, George van der Spuy (vox), Loedi van Renen (bass & backing vox), Louis Nel (drums) and Rian Zietsman (guitar) have maintained a steadfastly independent attitude. In 2005 they released a self-titled EP.

The music video for the single “Rock Out”, clearly captures the raw energy and soul of the band. It has since been on high rotation on music video programmes like MK-89 and GO! TV, where they have garnered an overwhelmingly positive public response. For a time, the second song off the EP ‘Waking Up’ was the most downloaded track on Internet server M.Web’s MP3 charts and then went on to win the RP Studios Emerging Sounds National Band Competition. Their debut album, called ‘Untie Yourself’ is unleashed in November 2007.
