STOFFEL is a big influence on our lives at Represent, he often fills us in on what’s going down on the net that we should know about but are too busy to find ourselves. Sharp Bru!

He told us about GOOGLE EARTH a long time ago and we’ve been meaning to share it with you… sorry for the delay.
But it’s so worth it. Hope you heard it from us first.

Simply put GOOGLE EARTH is a ‘A 3D interface to the planet ‘. Yes, that’s right – Google Earth allows you to zoom in from satellite photos out in space right down into your continent, then your country, even your town and if you live in the West, even to your street and house… It’s a free download and a mind-blowing concept.

Unfortunately their content on Africa is a lot less impressive than that of the States or Europe, but we’re sure they’ll get onto it soon.

Next from Stoffel is a foray into Internet Reality content the MTV UK STARZINE site… takes a while to load but it’s worth it. Basically it’s an MTV magazine that gives you a chance at stardom… they’re looking for content – you create your own content and then readers vote for the STARS.

They’re also have a SNAP, SEND and WIN site with a call for photo’s around a specific topic, this month it’s BAD HAIRDO’s – anyone from TRIOMF SHOPPING CENTRE online?

FASHIONISTA’S LISTEN UP:

His third offering is a fascinating fashion concept and site called 360degree Fashion, it’s a NOKIA sponsored LIFEBLOG software site – read all about it – thanks to MOCONET for the explanation:

“Nokia is promoting its LifeBlog software through the 360 degrees of Fashion project, or on WAP(http://micro.anina.net).

The eight participants were given a weblog (Typepad solution from Six Apart) and a Nokia telephone equipped with the Nokia Lifeblog software with the idea that they will showcase the concept…the 8 are from the fashion industry and represent “each ‘spoke’ in the ‘wheel’ of fashion (model, agency, designer, journalist, photographer, scout, artist and magazine)”. It’s a pretty good industry to pick, actually, considering that pretty much by definition people who are successful in the industry have a good sense of style, and many of them travel enough to keep the blogs interesting.

The project began at the initiation of Anina, the model involved (pictured). “I approached Nokia for sponsorship in November for my first art exhibition for my own use (www.anina.typepad.com),” Anina told Moconews. “I quickly realized what a powerful tool it was for the fashion industry. They gave me a phone and a blog account for one year. I created 360fashion concept to show to the fashion industry, who are the last to embrace the blog technology largely due to technophobia, how technology could help them have a digital presence and do pr for themselves in a powerful, easy, mobile way. I approached nokia for more sponsorship and they agreed. Nokia france gave me 10 phones and 10 blog accounts and the freedom to build the project. They agreed to sponsor the FASHION & BLOGGING CONFERENCE, being held this October 2005 during fashion week.”

First up from Willis is SNOPES A site that aims at exposing URBAN LEGENDS. It’s pretty American but we were delighted to find out that the PERFUME email… yes, you know that one about people drugging you at Joburg garages, is a complete hoax.
Shoo! Now we can wind the window all the way down and look the dudes in the eye!

There’s also a section on ODD NEWS which has classic newspaper stories from around the world with enticing titles like:
“Inebriated Belgian Woman Dies in Cemetery Accident” . We know a certain local rag that could fill up this site with their unbelievable story and head lines….

Next up on Willis’s list is 419Eater , a website dedicated to the art of scambaiting (i.e. baiting the wannabe e-mail scammers). It’s exactly what it is, trying to catch out scammers like those behind the 419 scam. If you know someone that’s been scammed, send them here for revenge.
So what is scambaiting? Well, put simply, you enter into a dialogue with scammers, simply to waste their precious time and resources. Whilst you are doing this, you will be helping to keep the scammers away from real potential victims.
