MTN SA is proud to announce that it is to sponsor the “Not in Our Lifetime” concert to be held at Newtown Park in Johannesburg on Sunday 3 August 2008.

The concert is the second phase of an awareness, educational and fund-raising initiative that was launched on 9 July. ‘Not In Our Lifetime” , which is driven by music, is aimed at spreading a positive message about South Africa and the African Continent.

MTN SA is the founding Corporate partner of the initiative.

Says Pieter Verkade, Chief Marketing Officer for MTN SA: “MTN has come a long way since its inception and is today the biggest mobile telecoms provider on the African continent. We recently launched our 2010 FIFA World Cup™ campaign, One Spirit One Africa, so we are very happy to celebrate this great continent through one of its strongest roots and one of our passions, music.”

The concert line up includes Lungelo, Teargas, MXO, Slikour, Necessary Noize (Kenya), Danny K, DJ Sbu, Kwela Tebza, Tuks, Tic Tac (Ghana), KB, Kalibrados (Angola), Pro Kid, HHP and DJ Cleo. MC’s for the event includes Thomas from Metro FM, Lee from Yfm and Shugasmakx.

The concert is about bringing artists from across Africa together to share one stage and unite in pledging their support to changing the world around us. It will take place at Newtown Park (adjacent to The Bassline ) in Newtown. Tickets, priced at an affordable R50 each are only available through Computicket. All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the “Not In Our Lifetime” initiative. Gates open early from 9am until 6pm for a full day line up of incredible artists who support the initiative.

Refreshments and food will be on sale.

‘Not In Our Lifetime’ launched earlier this month with the release of a track of the same name that makes a strong statement about South African and African youth, projecting a positive image of South Africa and Africa, by reminding ourselves, and the world, that the continent thrives on the values of acceptance and respect.

The track features a number of popular South African artists such as HHP, Pro, Simphiwe Dana, Slikour, Kwela Tebza, MXO, DJ Sbu and many more. The song is currently playing on radio stations across South Africa and the Callertune, full track or ringtone can be downloaded from www.MTNloaded.co.zaor <http://www.MTNloaded.co.zaor> by texting NIOL 1 to 083 123 686. For the next three months, the Not In Our Lifetime Callertune can be downloaded exclusively from www.MTNLoaded.co.za <http://www.MTNLoaded.co.za> at a cost of R5, all proceeds of which will go to the initiative.

Lee Kasumba, spokesperson for the initiative commented “Musicians have the power to touch lives and change attitudes and their music transcends borders and unites disparate people. The concert is part of the initiative’s education and awareness drive so that all South Africans and Africans across the continent can stand together, reclaim peace and respect and bring an end to injustice.

Proceeds of fundraising from the concert tickets and the sms download line (sms NIOLT1 to 083 123 686) will be managed and distributed to areas of need by an international aid organisation who have partnered with the initiative. All funds raised will be audited by Ernst and Young.
