AFDA (The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance) are proud to announce the nomination of 2005 fourth-year graduation film, ELALINI, for the Honorary Foreign Student Academy Awards.

The aim of this competition is to support and encourage filmmakers with no previous professional experience who are enrolled in CILECT- affiliated colleges and universities outside the borders of the United States

“ELALINI is an aesthetically and technically eloquent film that resonates with the rich cultural relevance of our new democratic South Africa and we believe that it can stand up as a contender for an Academy nomination,” says AFDA’s executive chairman, Garth Holmes.

ELALINI’s producer, Daniel Rumbak, had the following to say: “ELALINI is undoubtedly the best film we’ve ever made. Director Tristan Holmes breaks through with his vivid visuals, mature storytelling style and his signature approach to South African Cinema, while Ayanda Sithole and her ensemble cast deliver powerfully emotive performances that illuminate a very real and emotionally relevant problem in South Africa Today.”

“I have always believed that I was born in an era of miracles and endless opportunities. I’m blessed to have been a part of this movie. It is one I will always be proud of,” comments actress, Ayanda Sithole, on her experience of making the film.
