GUESS WHO’s BACK? OPRAH’s BLING BLING BACK!
She is back and wow did she kick off with a bang… It takes a lot for me to blub and there I sat, blubbing away throughout nearly the whole show… sniff sniff… It is almost too good to be true. I caught up with Oprah today – Monday the 4th April at 16h50 on the new SHINY MINIMALIST branded SABC3 (nice one bruvvas). Howz this for generosity and a way to kick off her new serie…s (which was recorded in September 2004 by the way) Oprah gave away 276 brand new Pontiac G6’s from General Motors – for more on the story go to CNN She presented one to each of her audience members who you can imagine went crazy… From there she went on to give a girl that lived on the street a full bursary to study, a makeover and a new wardrobe… Then she gave a pair of foster parents $130000 to buy the house they were about to be evicted from. This absolute huge generosity may be slightly over-whelming and questionable to some but it sure provides for great entertainment – Welcome back O!!! PS: Interestingly enough – apparently this huge marketing feat did little to effect the sales of the G6 which have been slow… check here for more...
So who is PAUL VIV?
We’ve been watching LATE NIGHT WITH PAUL VIV for the last few weeks and wondering who the hell this guy is and where he came from and how come he gets to do a show all on his own… We asked the man h’self to shoot from the hip… So the big question is WHO IS PAUL VIV? I am Paul Vivian Llewellyn, born in South Wales, raised in Africa and currently life is reasonably good. G What is your background – how come you got to get your very own show? I have worked as a producer and director for the last 5 years. I produced Castle Loud when it began and then a talk show called Nerv hosted by Mark Gilman. I then went to London and after 2 years of doing everything from bartending to working for the BBC I got a call from my previous employers telling me that they had proposed me as the host of a new talk show. We subsequently went through the tendering process and got the show. Simple as that really. What is late night with PV about? It’s about getting to know local personalities. It’s light entertainment to ease you into the week. What have you been doing in the last 5 years? By day I was in London working as an Associate Producer. Before that I was in Joburg working on a range of shows. By night I have probably been drinking too much. Are u inspired by any other late nighters? Yes, Dr Phil. He knows so much. And Conan O’Brien and Jonathan Ross. What radio station do u listen to? Yfm 90% of the time, the other 10% is spent with SAfm. Where do u shop? At the Spar around the corner from my house. Otherwise, Rosebank because it’s close. Where do u live? In Parktown North in JHB. Where were you born, where did you go to school, where did u study – what did u study? Born in Abergavenny, South Wales. Went to Llangynidr Primary there. Then moved to JHB, went to Glenhazel Primary and then KES. Studied at Rhodes University for a Bachelor of Journalism majoring in Journ and Politics. What is your favourite place in SA? My house when my girlfriend is with me. (Ed: Girlfriend? Is that PAM?) Where do you hang out in Joburg and why? Mostly at friends’ houses these days. Otherwise Melville, or I venture into the northern suburbs when a bit of a dance is required. MTV ANNOUNCES FIRST EVER AFRICA VJ
The votes are in! Check out the winner! He’s from KZN…. SIZWE DHLOMO WINS NATIONWIDE COMPETITION TO HOST MTV BASE WORLD CHART EXPRESS! MTV base, the pan-African music channel from MTV, last night appointed its first ever African VJ after a live face-off between the three VJ finalists on South African TV. Durban-born rap music fan, Sizwe Dhlomo, was appointed the official h…ost of MTV base World Chart Express, the new music chart show sponsored by Fanta, which airs weekly on SABC1. Sizwe beat fellow finalists Ash-Leigh La-Foy and Sfiso Magagula and thousands of hopefuls who attended three regional heats in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. His prize – the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to host the first series of MTV base World Chart Express, which he will present from next Wednesday 12 October. The confident 22-year old who was initially beaten in the Durban auditions by fellow finalist Ash-Leigh La Foy, was so determined to become MTV base’s first South African VJ that he traveled to Johannesburg in order to try his luck one last time. “There was no way I was going to give up,” he enthused. “I took what I could from the Durban auditions and made sure that I gave my best possible performance in Johannesburg.” And it was this performance that clinched him a place amongst the three finalists. Sizwe’s fate was decided by SMS voting by viewers of MTV base World Chart Express, which accounted for 50% of the total vote, with the remainder decided by a panel of 5 celebrity judges including MTV base talent and music executive, Richard Dimosi, SABC TV presenter Zam Nkosi, 5FM’s queen of the airwaves Nicole Fox, kwaito superstar Zola and Fanta marketing guru Sgwili Gumede. MTV France VJ, China, who acted as caretaker host for the first 2 shows, symbolically handed over the winners’ microphone to Sizwe at approximately 6:55 pm local time. Going home empty-handed were the two runners up: 18 year old Ash-Leigh La’Foy and 22 year old Sfiso Magagula.
