SUGARMAN won’t you hurry!

What’s going on with all these ballies from the 90s pulling in to Jozi to perform? First the Violent Femmes and now RODRIGUEZ… NO THE MAN IS NOT DEAD, he’s very much alive and he’s playing at the Bassline soon! Actually this won’t be the first time we lay eyes on Rodriguez, back in the day while lolling around a Splashy Fen jol, Just Jinger had a rocking performance where they… did their take on the song SUGARMAN. Half-way through the song the dreadlocked lead singer Art got us all in a frenzy as he told us that Rodriguez himself was in the house… Out “Rodriguez” stumbled onto the stage and kinda stood there looking … well… splashied – I remember feeling remotely confused as we’d heard he had died and he didnt do much singing at that point either. But I digress, if you missed that star-strucking opportunity, the man is back in Africa so get to Bassline this Thursday and sing along! Entries close Monday 14 Nov. MIDEM 2006: SA music labels and publishers invitation The 2005 MIDEM event was witness to a South African national unit for the very first time when the Moshito, the Department of Arts and Culture and the French Embassy of South Africa partnership fostered a huge national presence at the world music market. The South African Music Exports [Samex] and the Department of Arts and Culture [DAC] are organising the 2nd National South African Pavilion which will be hosted at MIDEM 2006 from the 21st to the 26th January. South African record labels, music publishers and other key music industry operators are called to interact with one another and explore new business possibilities at MIDEM 2006, where a vast South African presence is expected. An abundantly more spacious pavilion has been dedicated to South Africa and Moshito/Samex/DAC have allocated a budget towards partial funding for a number of South African labels interested in attending MIDEM 2006 in Cannes, France. Write a letter of motivation indicating how their company would benefit from attending MIDEM. Be able to partially fund their costs [R11 000] payable to Moshito immediately. Upon completion of a report, which must be compiled and submitted by the participant upon return to SA, the participant will receive a refund to the value of R1 000. They build them over a period of 5 days and are looking for volunteers to help buil…d. Volunteers need to be in good physical shape, as they need to lay bricks, mix cement, throw bricks, plaster, paint, lay tiles etc. Previous experience not required, as you will be taught.” 702 site for more info. 702 Habitat for Humanity Birthday Build For our birthday this year, we decided to throw a house party! Last year Talk Radio 702 and Habitat for Humanity embarked on a project to build three houses in Ivory Park in time to present them to three women for Women’s Day on the 9th of August. Community involvement continues to be an essential and integral part of 702’s values, particularly as a means to understanding the needs of the community which we serve. The APPRENTICE – see it with your own eyes

Well after bragging about seeing the APPRENTICE set in the city about 2 months before anyone else got to… we now encourage everyone to check the apartment out themselves – the ApprenticeTV series kicks off this Thursday on SABC 3 at 8:30pm with TOKYO SEXWALE in the trump seat. Eat your hearts out suburbians! Long live the city life! I remember when THE BLOCK aired last year -… I was so disappointed to see that the apartments were situated in pseudo italy cum Bali aka boring old over-complexed FOURWAYS – then again – some broadcasters always tread slowly and don’t like to admit to change… ouch. Then there’s other broadcasters that are visionary and like to lead the way – the good news is that the APPRENTICE apartment is smack bang in the middle of the Banking District in downtown JOZI… Well done guys – at last! You know we like to make the underground the norm!!! So we organised a little tour of the Apprentice set – we can’t show you any pics or give too much away but we can tell you ALL ABOUT IT!!! The apartment belongs to one very dashing young enthusiastic city property developer – the lucky man has to have the best pad in the whole city! It is situated on the top floor of a building that used to house the reserve bank – you can’t believe it’s up there. The boardroom – where the firing will be done – is on the groundfloor of another building nearby and has the most stunning boardroom table.. Tokyo is gonna love it! The refurbishing of the apartment was still being completed as we snuck around saying sorreee to workers on a deadline – however filming has already started – ladies – (and some guys) I got a glimpse of some of the contestants – some serious eye-candy is coming your way!!! And you know we have taste!:) Whoever did the interior decor has muchos taste too – wow – the finishings are impeccable – even better than any of the apartments in the Block and like the minds that chose the location – visionary. I used some of the most foul language known to man as i walked through the numerous palatial rooms – I won’t give it all away – but there is this round couch thang – wow – someone’s got to get funky on a couch that looks like a bed. The bathrooms looked like a wallpaper spread and the kitchen was Jamie Olivers dream. The clincher that caused the most shocking of expletives to pass my lips had to be...

If you make beasutiful goods by hand… and need to sell them, here is your outlet! Dollars nogal. “I like this new site Etsy.com – it’s sort of an eBay meets handmade goods shop. “Your place to buy and sell all things handmade.” Items for sale are tagged by materials used, as well as categories, and colors. There is also a geo-locator, and a fascinating time machine function, which allows you to see items that were just recently sold. Still in beta, the site look very good and quite promising. It’s a great place to find gifts you wont see anywhere else. ” Josh Spears....
