Introducing Vula Malinga

We recently stumbled across the soulful vocalist Vula Malinga who’s stirring up some musical waves in the UK after her success recording with Basement Jaxx. She’s an East London girl, as in Hackney luv, London, not the Eastern Cape, but born to South African parents in the States… Kinda pop meets RnB with the potential to do something different, she’s got some serious range on her- with her oodles of talent, we’re hoping she heads for an original sound. We’re hustling an interview with her soon, watch this space. Bit of PR on Vula – you can catch her on Facebook here : If you don’t already know about Miss Vula Malinga, chances are you’ve seen her everywhere and just didn’t realise. With an impressive catalog of work already under her belt with collaborations with UK heavyhitters such as Basement Jaxx and MJ Cole, she has gained respect in the UK music scene as one of the most gifted singer/songwriters on the scene and now after a sell out tour supporting Sam Sparro, Vula has dropped her long awaited E.P. “If You Want It” released under her own label “DivaGeek Records”.  With a new single due out early 2009, Keep your ear to the streets…. Happy Happy from all of us at Represent

Another year has flown by… and wow, we can’t believe that Represent is still around so many years later. We’ve gradually slowed down as you can tell by our minimal posting in December – got lots going down  :).  We’d like to thank everyone that’s a part of our extended family and friends…. you keep us going and make it worth our while. Sharpile! Big ups to Reuben, Nkateko, Dawn and Vincent in particular, thanks for all your time and love. And to all the wonderful PR people, gallery owners, interviewees and others that keep us fed… Sharp! 2008 has been an extremely rewarding year of change and major growth for Editorista, she’s pretty excited about the fact that the year has overall been pretty… to sum it up… 2000 and great… (cheesy) – but let’s not forget the many challenges and hardships being confronted daily by citizens around the world. We can do better and still hope for a better world. We’re not making any predictions for 09 although we already have lots of rebirth planned for Represent. We’ll be gone from now till mid Jan when we’ll be back with lots more of what you like. SO, you know the rules, have an amazing restive festive, but don’t do stupid stuff to mess it up like: drink too much and make stupid decisions, take shitty drugs, fight with your loved ones,  forget to wear sunscreen, swim in shark-infested waters, drink and drive,  take risks with your safety or health, shine on your friends shine, offer “The Secret” as a Christmas gift, agree to do something you don’t want to do, get yourself in debt buying more useless crap, stay home on your own and be lonely and feel sorry for yourself instead of going to Wimpy for bottomless coffee… BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, don’t make any ridiculous New Year’s resolutions.  So go easy on yourself, party swell and keep life simple in 09. And don’t forget to shine a light for those less fortunate than yourselves… REPRESENT! SEE YOU IN 09 xxx Editorista...

Daring but tender and sweet.”  In praise of the film, jury member Noe Mendelle has added, “I Love You is a candid yet very moving drama, with outstanding cinematography”. AiM is also pleased to announce that the winner of the AiM 2008 Audience Choice Award is Tunisian filmmaker Anis Lassoued for The Magic Crop, a charming magic realist tale that has already won several awards at film festivals worldwide. Speaking about the competition as a whole, Mark Cousins said, “Short films are the spurts of life, the new shoots, of the film world. It is great that Africa in Motion is focusing on them. That’s where the discovery and vitality is. The short film competition, and its considerable prize, is a brilliant way of putting the festival’s money where its mouth is, and giving a fillip to the zingy and daring new African...
